# Jagged-Bottomed Tables The Cityscape Coffee Table Turns an Inverted Skyline into Storage By Amelia Roblin | Published 2012-05-31 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cityscape-coffee-table References: [behance.net](http://www.behance.net/gallery/Cityscape/2784785) Given that most surfaces in living rooms quickly become magnets for all sorts of clutter, the Cityscape Coffee Table is a fantastic piece for practical reasons, as well as aesthetic ones. The belly of the object has been manipulated so to form an uneven slip, creating long compartments for the stashing of books, DVDs and all sorts of odds and ends. The unique shape of this furnishing came from the outline that skyscrapers make against their deep blue background when viewed from afar. This [jaggy silhouette](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/fels-coffee-table) was flipped upside-down and its contours were constructed and given depth by Trevor Vaugh with [joined wooden panels](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/boia). A chic whitewash coats the exterior of the Cityscape Coffee Table but some exposed rich woodgrain is visible on the inside. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 3.4/10 - Popularity: 68% | Activity: 25% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **Inverted Silhouette Design:** Opportunity for furniture designers to create unique and practical pieces based on inverted architectural or natural silhouettes. - **Jagged Bottoms:** Interior decorators can incorporate jagged-bottomed tables for both aesthetic and practical purposes to store clutter. - **Multi-functional Furniture:** Creating furniture pieces that are not only aesthetically pleasing, but also have practical functions for storage and organization can appeal to consumers. ### Where This Applies - **Furniture Design:** Jagged-bottomed tables and inverted silhouette designs can be incorporated into furniture pieces to offer unique and practical options for consumers. - **Interior Design:** Incorporating multi-functional furniture pieces into interior designs could provide clutter-free solutions to customers. - **Home Organization:** Multi-functional furniture that incorporates unique designs such as jagged-bottoms could offer home organization options to consumers. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Topographic Wooden Coffee Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/topographic-coffee-table.md) - [Wavy Sculptural Coffee Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sculptural-coffee-tables.md) - [Fluid Topographic Coffee Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/dune-table.md) - [Minimalist Book Storage Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pocket-coffee-table.md) - [Bookshelf-Incorporated Coffee Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/overlap-table.md) - [Artful Coffee Table Concepts](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/vertushka.md) - [Curvaceous Animalistic Coffee Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bookpet-coffee-table.md) - [Perplexingly Angular Side Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tadashi-side-table.md) - [Japandi-Style Coffee Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cloth-coffee-table.md)
