# Wire City Sculptures Artist Rodger Stevens is Constantly Inspired by His Urban Surroundings By Meghan Young | Published 2014-11-26 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/city-sculpture References: [design-milk](http://design-milk.com/city-inspired-sculptures-rodger-stevens/) & [rodgerstevens.info](http://www.rodgerstevens.info/index.php) When it comes to city sculptures, artist Rodger Stevens is greatly inspired by his urban surroundings. Born and bred in New York City, this is only natural. Yet it is interesting to note that many of his city sculptures revolve around everyday objects including scaffolding, fire hydrants and even manhole covers. Working predominantly with [steel, wire and iron](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/water-sculpture-lj), Stevens manages to give his city sculptures a [whimsical touch](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/anima) that removes them from their ordinary posts. About his process, Stevens shares, “I get really anxious to get it done, and I pretty much am just fabricating what I already made in my head completely. I’m not even watching what I’m doing, I just have to get it out, and follow the blueprint that I have in my head, as closely as I can.” ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 2.9/10 - Popularity: 53% | Activity: 26% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 90% men, 10% women - Primary generations: Gen X - Top markets: North America ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Whimsical City Sculptures:** Opportunity for artists to create unique sculptures inspired by urban surroundings using unconventional materials like steel, wire, and iron. - **Repurposing Everyday Objects:** Innovative potential for artists to transform ordinary city objects, such as scaffolding, fire hydrants, and manhole covers, into artistic sculptures. - **Urban Inspiration:** Growing trend of artists drawing inspiration from their urban environments to create expressive and dynamic city sculptures. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Art & Sculpture:** Artists in the sculpture industry can explore new avenues by creating unconventional city sculptures that redefine traditional art forms. - **Urban Design:** Opportunity for urban designers to incorporate whimsical city sculptures into public spaces, enhancing aesthetic appeal and creating unique urban experiences. - **Architecture:** Architects can collaborate with sculptors to integrate whimsical city sculptures into building designs, adding artistic elements to urban landscapes and transforming ordinary structures. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Spiky Inflatable Sculptures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/inflatable-sculptures1.md) - [NYC-Inspired Steel Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/city-block.md) - [Laser-Cut Urban Artistry](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/laser-cut-city-maps.md) - [Statement Street Art](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/surreal-street-art-1.md) - [Origami-Inspired Steel Art Sculptures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/reflector-sculpture.md) - [Otherworldly Wooden Art](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wooden-sculptures-1.md) - [Digital City-Inspired Art Works](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/grand-central-station.md) - [Psychedelic Sculptural Art Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/frank-stella-recent-sculpture.md) - [Towering Reclaimed Wooden Sculptures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/louise-durham.md)
