# Artistic Robot Paintings 'City, Paint, Machine' by panGenerator Attempts to Automate Art By Alexandra Serrano | Published 2012-09-24 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/city-paint-machine-by-pangenerator References: [fastcodesign](http://www.fastcodesign.com/1670799/robot-paints-like-jackson-pollock-with-city-traffic-as-subject) & [pangenerator](http://pangenerator.com/) Exploring the possibilities of computer logic, 'City, Paint, Machine' by panGenerator showcases [robot-made art](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ai-automation). Utilizing rules for creating art, this robot is able to make paintings that resemble abstract expressionism. This painting robot "interprets nearby [street and sidewalk traffic](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/polis) as sprays of pigment," says Co. Design. Despite their abstract aesthetic, these paintings were created with careful calculation of passerby data -- from cars to people along the sidewalk. This technological marvel is fascinating with its ability to take chaos and make it logical to create something as human as art. The notion of something mechanical creating art is taboo in that logic and expression cannot be considered the same thing. 'City, Paint, Machine' by panGenerator begs the question of whether [creativity can be imitated by robots](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ayecreate). ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 1.6/10 - Popularity: 27% | Activity: 12% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### What Makes This Trend Stand Out - **Automated Art:** The trend of automated art is enabled by advancements in computer logic and robotics, allowing machines to create art that resembles human expression. - **Data-driven Art:** The rise of data-driven art utilizes real-time data inputs, such as passerby data, to influence and shape artistic creations, blurring the line between human creativity and algorithmic generation. - **Robotic Creativity:** The concept of robotic creativity challenges traditional human-centric notions of artistic expression, provoking discussions on the limits and possibilities of machines in imitating creativity. ### Sectors Adopting This - **Artificial Intelligence:** The artificial intelligence industry can leverage the trend of automated art to develop advanced algorithms that mimic human artistic expression, enabling the creation of art by machines. - **Robotics:** The robotics industry has an opportunity to further innovate in the field of data-driven art, incorporating real-time data inputs and expanding the capabilities of painting robots to create unique and interactive artistic experiences. - **Creative Arts:** The creative arts industry can embrace the concept of robotic creativity to explore new forms of collaboration between humans and machines, pushing the boundaries of artistic expression and engagement. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [AI-Powered Painting Machines](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/loklik-ipaint.md) - [AI-Generated Poetic Photo Series](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/emilio-alarcn.md) - [Artistic AI Robots](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sketcher-x.md) - [AI-Generated Art Galleries](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/aigenerated-art-gallery.md) - [Drone-Assisted Landscape Artwork](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/katsu-1.md) - [Robotic Portrait Sketches](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pankraz-piktograph.md) - [AI-Generated Topic Art](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-art-of-trending-1.md) - [AI-Generated Soup Can Art](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/campbells-paintings.md) - [Colossal AI Artworks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ai-artwork.md)
