The installation was done for the I Love Shanghai exhibition at Art Labor and will be there until January 5th 2014. The artwork was developed through the use of Google Earth imagery of the bustling metropolitan; the result is a vibrant depiction of the very core of Shanghai. To understand how the installation works, a blue squared light illuminates a network of [fluorescent neon tubes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/love-and-unity) that abstractly portrays Shanghai’s city DNA. The piece is run by a flash program and represents the constant transformation, expansion and increasing growth in one of China’s most densely populated cities. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 1.6/10 - Popularity: 19% | Activity: 22% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **Luminescent Cityscape Installations:** Opportunity for artists and designers to create immersive and visually stunning cityscape installations using luminescent technologies. - **Representative Colors and Patterns:** Potential for exploration of other cities' constructs through representative colors and patterns, providing new perspectives and interpretations. - **Fluorescent Neon Tube Art:** Emerging trend of using fluorescent neon tubes as a medium for abstract artistic representations of urban landscapes, offering a unique and captivating visual experience. ### Where This Applies - **Art and Design:** Disruptive potential for artists and designers to incorporate luminescent technologies and abstract representations of cityscapes into their creative works, providing innovative and immersive experiences for viewers. - **Exhibition and Event Management:** Opportunity to showcase luminescent cityscape installations as part of exhibitions and events, attracting visitors and creating memorable experiences. - **Tourism and Travel:** Potential to incorporate luminescent cityscape installations as tourist attractions, offering unique and captivating experiences for travelers and promoting destinations. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Urban Soundscape Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/moment-installation.md) - [Illuminated Curtained Light Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/making-the-invisible-visible.md) - [Stunningly Intricate Light Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/shapes-of-light.md) - [Neon Illuminated Christmas Trees](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/fluorescence.md) - [Luminous Park Domes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/osmanthus-moon.md) - [Intricate Lighting Sculptures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/objects-of-common-interest1.md) - [Lightning-Inspired Artful Exhibitions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bright-light-shining.md) - [Concept-Driven Public Art Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ivan-toth-depea.md) - [Suspended Lighting Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/suspended-lighting-installation.md)
