# Lockable Bike Lights City Firefly Brings Security to the Stationery Bicycle and the Moving Rider By Amelia Roblin | Published 2014-10-01 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/city-firefly References: [yankodesign](http://www.yankodesign.com/2014/09/30/) & [red-dot.sg](http://www.red-dot.sg/en/online-exhibition/concept/?code=1148&y=2014&c=19&a=0) When it comes to [cyclist security](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/livall-ai-visual-smart-helmet), two main issues come to mind: road-safety and [anti-theft](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bosch-battery-lock). The clever idea behind the City Firefly manages to confront both of these with a cutting-edge hybrid design. With BWA\HAKUHODO, Uchima Rosa and Takeshima Kazuyoshi came up with a glowing bike lock that can be worn by the rider in transit. Taking the shape of a generous loop, the link can be comfortably slung over a shoulder, wrapped around a waist, or simply bound around the frame of a bicycle. Thanks to a band of [glowing blue material](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/scoutlite-blinko), other vehicles on the road will be more likely to notice you and give you ample space to ride as they pass by. The City Firefly bicycle chain lock system was recognized as one of the Best of the Best at this year's Red Dot Design Awards. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 2.0/10 - Popularity: 31% | Activity: 21% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Gen Alpha, Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Hybrid Bike Accessories:** There is an opportunity for companies to create hybrid accessories that serve multiple purposes while enhancing the cycling experience. - **Smart Bike Locks:** Developing smart bike locks with advanced security features can help reduce the risk of bike theft. - **Glowing Bike Gear:** Incorporating glowing material in bike gear can help increase cyclist visibility and promote road safety. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Cycling Accessories:** Cycling accessory companies can benefit from creating innovative products that serve multiple purposes while enhancing the cycling experience. - **Security Products:** Companies that make security products can benefit from creating advanced smart bike locks that can help reduce the risk of bike theft. - **Sportswear:** Sportswear companies can create glowing bike gear to increase cyclist visibility and promote road safety. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Three-in-One Bike Locks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/multifunctional-bike-lock.md) - [Indestructible Bike Locks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/foldylock-forever.md) - [Helmet-Friendly Bike Locks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/abus-combiflex-travelguard.md) - [Cyclist Safety Light Projectors](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bike-safety-device.md) - [Omnidirectional Bike Lights](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/vis-lightpool-taillight.md) - [Illuminated Bike Helmets](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lightweight.md) - [Discreet Connected Bike Locks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/laas-olock.md) - [Real-Time Monitoring Bike Locks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/elios-crossover-lock.md) - [Illuminated Cycling Helmets](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/illuminated-cycling-helmet.md)
