# Oscillating C-Shaped Lights The Circum Lamp Rolls Back and Forth to Offer Direct or Diffuse Beams By Amelia Roblin | Published 2013-10-26 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/circum-lamp References: [danielliss-design](http://www.danielliss-design.com/) The Circum Lamp looks like quite the futuristic feature; however, the principles behind its versatility are really quite basic. This, of course, should not take away from its clever design. Daniel Liss chose a [ring form for his light fixture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/arc-lamp), but he extracted a segment to embed [LED lights](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ilo-lamp) in one end. The whole of the C-shaped device is relatively evenly weighted, so a [unique balancing system](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tangent-lamp) was integrated. Five dimples can be found along the inside of the incomplete hoop and a single metal ball bearing fits nicely into one at a time. Depending on which indent you fill with the weight, the crescent will take a different angled position. With this setup, the Circum Lamp can direct its rays downwards or upwards for either focused or spread out illumination, respectively. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 3.5/10 - Popularity: 74% | Activity: 24% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Gen Alpha, Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### What's Driving This Trend - **Versatile Light Fixtures:** The Circum Lamp's unique balancing system for directed or diffuse beams presents opportunities for designing other versatile light fixtures. - **Innovative LED Lighting:** The Circum Lamp's use of embedded LED lights in a segment of a ring shape presents opportunities for innovative LED lighting designs. - **Smart Balancing System:** The Circum Lamp's balancing system offers an opportunity for further development of smart balancing mechanisms in products beyond lighting fixtures. ### Who This Affects Most - **Lighting:** The unique design of the Circum Lamp presents opportunities for innovation in the lighting industry to create versatile, multifunctional light fixtures. - **Home Decor:** The Circum Lamp's futuristic and innovative design offers opportunities for designing other unique and stylish home decor products. - **Product Design:** The Circum Lamp's clever and simple design presents opportunities for further development of product design that balances form and function effectively. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Multifunctional C-Shaped Illuminators](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/clamp.md) - [Levitating Dynamic Ring Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/levitos.md) - [Planetary Dual-Illumination Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/orbis-lamp.md) - [Concentric Geometric Lighting](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/caleide.md) - [Compact Elaborate LED Smart-Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cup-lamp.md) - [Circular Hollow Timeless Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lost-collection.md) - [Adjustable Sculptural Desk Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ovo-lamp.md) - [Elegant Axis-Mounted Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pendulum-lamp.md) - [Geometric-Shaped Wall Lighting](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/impulse-wall-light.md)
