Ed Musante has created buzz by selecting [cigar boxes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-prisoner-red-blend) as the canvas for his [paintings of birds](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/painting-exhibition). His [avian cigar box characters](http://www.artnet.com/Galleries/Exhibitions.asp?gid=142069&cid=136491&rta=http://www.artnet.com&source=-1) range from intricately detailed Barred Owl to birds with vibrant shades in their feathers like a Blue Jay and Yellowhead Blackbird. The collection is currently being shown at the Paul Thiebaud Gallery in San Francisco. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 0.6/10 - Popularity: 7% | Activity: 2% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial - Top markets: North America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Cigar Box Art:** The trend of using cigar boxes as a unique canvas for paintings is disrupting the traditional art industry. - **Bird Art:** The trend of creating intricate paintings of birds is disrupting the traditional wildlife art industry. - **Upcycling Art:** The trend of upcycling materials, such as cigar boxes, to create art is disrupting the traditional art industry and encouraging sustainability. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Art:** The art industry has an opportunity to embrace unconventional materials and techniques to create unique pieces and stand out in a crowded market. - **Wildlife Art:** The wildlife art industry has an opportunity to explore more creative and nontraditional depictions of animals, such as through intricate paintings of birds. - **Sustainability:** The sustainability industry can take inspiration from the upcycling trend in art and encourage the repurposing of materials in other areas of society. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Wooden Minimal Nesting Boxes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/nesting-boxes.md) - [Modernism Birdhouse Exhibitions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/dwellings-project.md) - [Color-In Fish Packaging](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/summertime-art-box.md) - [Artist-Edition Jigsaw Puzzles](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/artistedition-jigsaw-puzzles.md) - [Striking Urban Wildlife Art](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/clare-allin.md) - [Home Exterior Nesting Boxes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/numbird.md) - [Smokable Art Pieces](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/flower-by-edie-parker-1.md) - [Birdcage-Inspired Smart Speakers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bird-intelligent-sound-box.md) - [Mexican Artist Tequila Art](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/gonzalo-lebrija.md)
