# Whimsical Wooded Shelters Cicada by Marco Casagrande Features a Bold and Nature-Inspired Design By Jana Pijak | Published 2012-01-27 | Eco Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cicada-by-marco-casagrande References: [frameweb](http://www.frameweb.com/news/cicada) & [landezine](http://www.landezine.com/index.php/2012/01/cicada-by-marco-casagrande/) The cocoon-inspired design for Cicada by Marco Casagrande stems from nature. The whimsical wooded shelter juxtaposes against Taipei's congested and hectic urban center. The bold architectural piece aims to connect urbanites with nature. The free-flowing structure is organic in shape, resembling nest or cocoon construction. Constructed from natural bamboo, the wood is woven and combined with recycled broken glass and concrete. This constructed space blurs the lines between interior and exterior space, fusing nature with the big city. With integrated plants, the structure's exterior extends inside, allowing visitors to visit a whimsically wooded world. Cicada's interior features steel accents that include low stools and a functional fireplace. A cut-out on the ceiling acts a chimney, brings in daylight and serves as the perfect viewfinder for a brilliant night sky. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 0.3/10 - Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Eco](https://www.trendhunter.com/eco) ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Undulating Wood Bakeries](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/baker-d-chirico.md) - [Stacked Green Structures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/vo-trong-nghia.md) - [Gridlike Bar Interiors](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/fat-cow-restaurant.md) - [Intricately Weaved Ceiling Art](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/somewhere-over-the-rainbow.md) - [Portable Wooden Huts](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/robust-outdoor-brands.md) - [Translucent Human Structures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/matthias-geiger.md) - [Giant Disco Ball Structures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/shadow-pavilion.md) - [Cylindrical Sandbag Shelters](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/nader-khalili.md) - [Eviscerated Architecture Art](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/marjan-teeuwen.md)
