Terrariums have been formally inspired by an unexpected iconic object. The familiar [spherical fish bowl](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pet-jellyfish) with the circular opening has been adapted for species that tolerate a dehydrated environment. As usual, sand, gravel or larger stones might be placed at the bottom of the vessel before [mosses and succulent plants](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/moss-humidifier-concept) are nestled inside of it. The [clear glass containers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/mars-collection) can become display cases for exquisite varieties of carpets and cacti that might begin to emerge from the hole in the top of the globe. A playful way to showcase the whimsicality of the Chive Inc. Terrariums would be do position one adjacent to a brimming matching aquarium. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 2.1/10 - Popularity: 28% | Activity: 28% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Themed Terrariums:** There is an opportunity for manufacturers to license popular iconography and expand their offering of terrariums with specific themes. - **Drought-tolerant Vegetation:** As water scarcity becomes more important, there is an opportunity for manufacturers to develop more varieties of plants that do not need frequent watering. - **Multi-functional Containers:** There is an opportunity for manufacturers to design terrariums that serve more than one function such as a terrarium that doubles as a lamp or vase. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Home Decor:** Manufacturers can expand their offerings and cater to home decor enthusiasts looking for unique and eye-catching pieces. - **Gardening and Horticulture:** The horticulture industry offers an opportunity to develop new plant varieties to complement the unique shapes of the Chive Inc.
