Japanese studio Double Negatives Architecture adapted to a difficult woodland site when creating this concrete and chipboard home in the forest of Japan's Nagano Prefecture.

The landscape provided many hardships for the architects; namely, the hilly topography and diminished lighting. To combat these problems, the architects began with [MAS](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/japanmade-vol1), a multi-agent system, to map out the surroundings and plan their design. As such, their design takes far more care and consideration of the site than most; you could say, even, that the home was custom-built to make the most out of a tricky location.

The architects used sheets of oriented strand board to redirect sunlight away from the windows. Another feature, the home's [sloping roof](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pyramid-hut), was specifically designed on the angle that best protects the rest of the home from strong winds coming in from the west.
