# Balancing Umbrella-Style Stools The Chiks Seat is as Compact a Chair as You'll Ever See By Amelia Roblin | Published 2013-02-24 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/chiks-seat References: [behance.net](http://www.behance.net/gallery/Chiks/5473041) The function of the Chiks Seat really is not obvious the first time you lay eyes on it. The curious contraption consists of a pole with a rubber tip and a [cluster of wires](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wire-chair-concept) in the other end that expand to spread a piece of cloth. The entire thing takes the rough dimensions of a parasol. With the red fabric open, you might start to realize the potential of this unusual object. It seems to be a [supported sling](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/shanti-chair) and the hollow metal rod is sturdy enough to bear your weight on top of the grippy dome in the base.
