# Upcycled Cheese Grater Lamps These DIY Illuminators are Inspired from the Series 'That 70s Show' By Andrew Sztein | Published 2013-04-25 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cheese-grater References: [neatorama](http://www.neatorama.com/2013/04/24/Grater-Lamp/) & [recyclart.org](http://www.recyclart.org/2013/04/suspended-lamp-made-out-of-recycled-graters/) I'm always impressed by people who use common household items for purposes other than what they were originally intended for, and this racked cheese grater lamp certainly qualifies. The DIY cheese grater lamp was inspired by an episode of the classic TV series 'That 70s Show,' which featured a similar lamp design in the Foreman's family kitchen. The DIY project is as simple as wiring a few light fixtures through a board of wood. Once wired, it's just a matter of hanging cheese graters as lamp shades into the fixtures. Next thing you know, you'll have the cheesiest lighting fixture in the entire neighborhood. If you really love food and want your kitchen to reflect that, then this is definitely the project for you. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 5.9/10 - Popularity: 85% | Activity: 83% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 30% men, 70% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, South America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [DIY](https://www.trendhunter.com/diy) ## Key Themes ### What Makes This Trend Stand Out - **Upcycling Household Items:** Opportunity for creative repurposing of common household items to create unique and functional products. - **DIY Lighting Projects:** Emphasis on creating custom lighting fixtures through DIY projects, allowing for personalization and creativity. - **Retro-inspired Design:** Growing interest in incorporating nostalgia and vintage aesthetics into modern designs. ### Sectors Adopting This - **Home Decor:** Innovative approaches to home decor using repurposed materials and DIY projects. - **Lighting:** Demand for customizable and unique lighting fixtures that reflect personal style and creativity. - **Interior Design:** Opportunities for incorporating retro-inspired design elements and DIY projects for more individualized spaces. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Retro Vinyl Record-Inspired Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/gramophone-lamp.md) - [Recycled Material Lamp Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cozy-cleo-lamp.md) - [Quirky Common Item Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/table-lamp-lighter.md) - [Playful Brick-Born Lighting](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/analog-lamps-1.md) - [Recycled Cardboard Workspace Lights](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/graypants-dash-linear-light-fixture.md) - [Ice Cream-Resembling Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/soft-serve-lamp.md) - [Dripping Faucet-Inspired Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/minimalist-light-fixture.md) - [Geometric Nostalgic Night Lights](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/handmaid-table-lamp.md) - [Animation-Inspired LED Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/animationinspired-led-lamp.md)
