# Cheese Grater Room Divider More Upscaled Kitchen Objects By Cowbag | Published 2008-08-03 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cheese-grater-room-divider-more-upscaled-kitchen-objects References: [designboom](http://www.designboom.com/weblog/cat/10/view/3050/paravent-by-mona-hatoum-at-art-basel-2008.html) & [maxhetzler](http://www.maxhetzler.com/1035.0.html) As a rule of thumb I have a real problem with [room dividers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/artisanal-textile-divider) but I do like the giant cheese grater room divider. However, be careful not to fall into it... ;) This art piece is called 'Paravent'. It was created by London-based Lebanese artist Mona Hat. Design Boom describes her background, "Born in lebanon, artist mona hatoum has lived in london since 1975 where she studied at the byam shaw school of art and the slade school of art. She was nominated for the prestigious turner prize in 1995... She initially worked in performance art and has since moved into [sculpture and installation](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/folded-echoes)." I'd love to add more, but there is only so much I can say about a giant cheese grater. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 1.8/10 - Popularity: 16% | Activity: 29% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Interactive Room Dividers:** Designing room dividers that will not only fulfill its primary function but also be interactive and spark interest in guests. - **Kitchen-themed Art Installations:** Creating kitchen-inspired art installations that incorporate functional objects as an aesthetic focus. - **Sculptural Furniture Pieces:** Turning functional furniture pieces into sculptural works of art with unique shapes and features. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Interior Design:** Incorporating creative and unique room dividers into home and commercial spaces to add an artistic touch. - **Art:** Exploring the use of everyday functional objects as art installations to create thought-provoking and visually stunning pieces. - **Furniture Design:** Innovating and elevating furniture design by creating sculptural pieces that are both functional and artistic. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Rotating Panel Room Dividers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ro-room-dividers.md) - [Material-Centric Room Divider Series](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ren-series.md) - [Pleated Textile Dividers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/plissade.md) - [Sculptural Room Screens](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/morgen-screen.md) - [Hemp Room Dividers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/breeze-divider.md) - [Contemporary Modular Space Dividers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wallstreet.md) - [Flexible Room Partition Systems](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/room-partition-system.md) - [Flatpack Cardboard Room Dividers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/nook-room-dividers.md) - [Elegant Cane Partitions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/midcentury-partition.md)
