The result is a stunning structure that one would never guess is a simple shipping dock. The design allows plenty of light to shine through so that visitors are never disconnected from the [great outdoors](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/green-cabin). This feature is ideal considering the surrounding scenery at the Nanaimo station. Located in beautiful British Columbia, the terminal is surrounded by gorgeous [blue water and mountains](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/diachok-architects) that stretch to the sky, creating a scenic backdrop for waiting passengers. In the colder winter months, individuals will also be kept safe from the damp and chills. Checkwitch Poiron Architects did a great job at making a chic design for a ferry terminal, which is not a common occurrence when it comes to waiting areas! ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 6.1/10 - Popularity: 85% | Activity: 91% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 70% men, 30% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Millennial - Top markets: North America ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Transparent Structures:** Opportunity for architects and designers to incorporate transparency into various building designs, creating visually appealing and connected spaces. - **Scenic Backdrops:** Opportunities for tourism and hospitality industries to capitalize on scenic locations and create immersive experiences for visitors. - **Chic Waiting Areas:** Opportunity for interior designers and architects to reimagine waiting spaces and enhance the overall aesthetics and comfort for passengers. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Architecture:** Opportunity for architects to explore innovative designs and materials that incorporate transparency as a key feature, revolutionizing building aesthetics and functionality. - **Tourism:** Opportunity for tourism industry to leverage picturesque locations and create unique experiences that highlight natural beauty and appeal to travelers seeking immersive environments. - **Hospitality:** Opportunity for hotels, resorts, and other hospitality establishments to incorporate scenic backdrops into their designs and amenities, creating memorable experiences for guests. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Dynamic Wavy Steel Canopies](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cheung-sha-wan-pier-canopy.md) - [Romantic Seaside Pier Pavilions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/seaside-pavilion.md) - [Captivating Viewpoint-Integrated Exhibitions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/portlantis.md) - [Docked Ship-Inspired Tea Houses](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/billy-otea.md) - [Beach-Inspired Metro Stations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tourism-line.md) - [Wave-Inspired Civic Halls](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sail-congress-centre.md) - [Angular Getaway Cabin Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/halfmoon-bay.md) - [Recycling-Centric Waterfront Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/shor-house.md) - [Garden City-Inspired Airport Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/changi-airport-1.md)
