# Radiating Tactical Lights Checkmate! Lamps Bring Stategic Elements to Home Decor By Matt Ho | Published 2011-06-16 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/checkmate-lamps References: [contemporist](http://www.contemporist.com/2011/06/14/checkmate-lamps-by-fang-studio-for-hive/) & [designbyhive](http://www.designbyhive.com/) When it comes to acting on a concept idea, the Checkmate! Lamps are definitely well executed. The designer behind Fang Studio created the Checkmate! Lamps to reflect the [strategic nature of chess](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/chair-chess). Each of the items has been made to either look like or replicate every single piece of the board game. So whether you want a pawn, the king or the rook, it is available to you in [lamp form](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/polyshape-lamp). What I like even more behind the idea is that Fang Studio adopts the idea of strategic placement into their design -- this time, it’s all about getting the best ambiance instead of winning the game. The Checkmate! Lamps are well thought-out pieces for the home that have a great concept and look good at the same time. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 1.5/10 - Popularity: 25% | Activity: 11% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 30% men, 70% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **Strategic Home Decor:** Creating home decor pieces with a strategic twist can offer a unique and innovative addition to the market. - **Game-inspired Design:** Looking to popular games for design inspiration can lead to fresh and exciting product concepts. - **Ambiance Lighting:** Focusing on lighting as a tool for creating ambiance opens up opportunities for unique and functional designs. ### Where This Applies - **Interior Design:** Integrating game-inspired elements into interior design products could be a disruptive innovation for the industry. - **Lighting:** Emphasizing the importance of ambiance lighting in the lighting industry could lead to creating more functional and unique products. - **Gaming:** Collaborating with game developers to create game-inspired home decor could lead to a disruptive innovation in the gaming industry. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Artistic Magnetic Lamp Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/scacco-matto-lamp.md) - [Interconnecting Component Table Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/customizable-table-lamp.md) - [Storage-Friendly Task Lights](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/storage-lamp.md) - [Playful Brick-Born Lighting](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/analog-lamps-1.md) - [Scenic Architecture Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/architecture-inspired-table-lamp.md) - [Minimalist Workstation Task Lights](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/desk-lamp-concept.md) - [Hollow Candle-Like Table Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lampe.md) - [Traditional Tower-Inspired Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-pagoda-lamp.md) - [Bold Playful Lighting Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/little-lebow-table-lamp.md)
