# Video Chat Roulette Chatroulette Allows You to Talk to as Many Strangers as You Want By Robyn Currie | Published 2010-01-29 | Pop Culture Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/chatroulette References: [asylum](http://www.asylum.com/2010/01/28/chatroulette-com-is-our-favorite-web-site-since-youtube/) & [chatroulette](http://www.chatroulette.com) Oh jeez, I just found a site for, and by, creepy people. It is called ChatRoulette, and I believe that it will be only moments before the FBI, CSI, RCMP and CIA move to shut this baby down. Basically it is a [video chat system](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/realperson-video-verification) where you are connected with a [complete stranger](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/connection-app), and at anytime you can chat with them, or hit next to be connected with another person. I was tempted to try ChatRoulette, but with a 20:1 [male-female ratio](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/trycatch-global-dating), I thought the creepers would be asking to see my rack. I don’t need to go online to hear that. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 6.4/10 - Popularity: 83% | Activity: 100% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Millennial - Top markets: North America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Pop Culture](https://www.trendhunter.com/popculture) > [Internet](https://www.trendhunter.com/internet) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **Video Chat Socializing:** Developing secure and moderated online platforms where strangers can safely socialize via video chat. - **AI Moderation:** Developing AI-powered content moderation tools to ensure the safety and comfort of users on video chat platforms. - **Real-time Language Translation:** Developing real-time language translation tools to allow people to converse and build connections with individuals from different regions. ### Where This Applies - **Online Social Networks:** Online social networking platforms can invest in AI-powered moderation tools and video chat features to increase user engagement. - **Language Translation Services:** Language translation services can collaborate with video chat platforms to develop real-time language translation tools. - **Online Counseling Services:** Online counseling services can utilize video chat platforms for virtual counseling sessions to increase access to mental health support. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Visual Chat Platforms](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/picnow.md) - [Anonymous Site Chats](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/webchat.md) - [Safe Stranger Chat Apps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/whisperly-app.md) - [Real-Time Video Matching](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/call-me-maybe.md) - [Friend-Finding Virtual Hangouts](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/strangely.md) - [Uncharted Web Journeys](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/uncharted-web-journeys.md) - [ChatGPT Video Call Chatbot](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/call-annie.md) - [Attractiveness AI Tool Programs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hot-chat-3000.md) - [AI Dating Adventures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/flipped-chat.md)
