# Delicately Collapsing Chairs This Charlotte Girod Creation Features a Soft Escalating Shadow By Michael Hemsworth | Published 2013-02-09 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/charlotte-girod References: [notcot.org](http://www.notcot.org/post/52552/) & [charlottegirod](http://www.charlottegirod.com) This fantastical [seating creation](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ff-chair-collection) by [Charlotte Girod](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/charlotte-hornets-facility) actually emulates that of several chairs stacked, but tumbling apart. The chair is completely functional, yet features what appears to be two or three other chairs that have been crammed underneath. Slightly [surrealist and effortlessly contemporary](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/atypical-chair), this Charlotte Girod chair emulates that of a dream-like state where that what appears to be is not always as such. While it would be lovely to own a complete set of these sophisticating seating solutions, they are for display only and currently on hold at a museum in Hambourg, Germany. Girod is synonymous with making post-modern pieces that highlight clean lines and striking imagery. Her other work is consistently praised as being organic yet structured and completely ethereal while still maintaining the essence of the real world in the materials used. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 1.0/10 - Popularity: 14% | Activity: 9% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### What's Driving This Trend - **Surrealist Furniture Design:** Designers could explore creating furniture that emulates dream-like states for a unique and artistic touch. - **Functional Art Installations:** Artists can explore the intersection of functionality and aesthetics to create stunning art installations like this Charlotte Girod chair. - **Organic-yet-structured Furniture:** Furniture designers can experiment with creating pieces that balance organic and structured elements, like Girod's other work. ### Who This Affects Most - **Furniture Design:** The furniture industry can incorporate surrealistic designs in their pieces to create unique products that stand out in the market. - **Art Exhibitions and Museums:** Art curators could consider showcasing functional art installations to provide visitors with a unique and memorable experience. - **Interior Design Services:** Interior designers can incorporate organic-yet-structured furniture designs to create visually appealing spaces for their clients. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Structurally Complex Chair Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-arch-chair.md) - [Circular Modernist Chair Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/zerogravity-chair.md) - [Meticulous Paper-Stacked Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/paragraphic-in-four-stacks.md) - [Artfully Balanced Chair Concepts](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/halfway-serious.md) - [Marbles-Inspired Intricate Chair Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/shepherd-studio.md) - [Rope-Like Dynamic Chair Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/caterpillar-lounge.md) - [Shimmering Cantilevered Seating Solutions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/2023-shadow-chair.md) - [Suspenseful Statement Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/edgeofyr.md) - [Flatpack Ultra-Modular Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/nebula-chair.md)
