# Reinterpreted Nostalgic Tablets The Chalkboard Pad is a Throwback to Simpler Times By Jennifer Gosnell | Published 2012-07-06 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/chalkboard-pad References: [bitrebels](http://www.bitrebels.com/design/chalkboard-pad-a-nostalgic-design-inspired-by-the-new-ipad/) & [etsy](http://www.etsy.com/listing/73939756/trio-of-chalkboard-tablets) With the new emergence of the [iPad](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/redesigned-ipad), the Kindle Fire, the [Blackberry](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/mint-board) Tablet and more, the Chalkboard Pad is a reminder of simpler times. Smart and functional in design, what it lacks in technological prowess it makes up for in adorable-chic. Perfect for kids who want something fun to play on or to put recipes up, the Chalkboard Pad is a hilarious alternative to the expensive tablets on the market today. Created by [Etsy](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/arcade-clock) sellers Peg and Awl, the inexpensive tablet set is reminiscent of true tablets and old school writing sets. With a leather-bound side to hold a chalk pencil in, the wood block chalkboard design is a throwback to when a tablet was literally a slab of wood. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 6.1/10 - Popularity: 92% | Activity: 84% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, South America, Europe, Asia, Africa ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Throwback Tech:** Embracing nostalgic designs and functionality for modern technology. - **Adorable-chic:** Combining cute aesthetics with functional technology. - **Affordable Alternatives:** Offering budget-friendly options for tablets with unique designs. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Consumer Electronics:** Exploring retro-inspired designs for modern tech gadgets. - **Crafts and Handmade:** Creating customized and unique tablet accessories with a vintage twist. - **Children's Products:** Developing fun and affordable tablets specifically designed for kids. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Paper-Inspired Drawing Tablets](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/xencelabs-pen-tablet.md) - [Paper-Like Design Tablets](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tcl-nxtpaper-12-pro.md) - [Notepad-Replacing E Ink Tablets](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pocketbook-inkpad-x-pro.md) - [Portable Drawing Tablets](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/portable-projector-for-kids.md) - [Paper-Like Drawing Tablets](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/mobile-drawing-tablet.md) - [Fashionable Desktop Design Tablets](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wondlet-graphics-tablet.md) - [Forest-Inspired Screenless Toys](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/screenless-toys.md) - [Paper-Free To-Do Devices](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/eminder.md) - [Color E-Paper Tablets](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/note-a1-nxtpaper.md)
