# Space Age Swivel Seating The Chair by Stuart Bacon Spins on a Sleek Suspension By Amelia Roblin | Published 2011-10-03 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/chair-by-stuart-bacon References: [industrialdesignserved](http://www.industrialdesignserved.com/gallery/The-Chair/929776) I can easily picture Doctor Evil from Austin Powers rotating around to face a frightened visitor in The Chair by Stuart Bacon. Such a visitor might then be amused by the way that the seat's spine blocks the villain's gaze from his summoned. But while this [futuristic piece of furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/polarisgo-chair) is able to pivot 360 degrees on the arched metal arm above, it is designed to be placed thoughtfully within a room, given the permanence of its apparent weight in metal. Ideally set up against a wall or in the corner of a room, the perch provides its sitter with unobstructed views of everything within the space. The [streamlined lounger](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/himalaya-pelvis-chair) has been sculpted with a low incline, supporting the user with a catch at the edge of the seat to keep him sitting securely in the [spinning chair](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/orbit-chair) by Stuart Bacon. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 4.0/10 - Popularity: 47% | Activity: 64% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Space-age Seating Designs:** Innovation opportunities for designers to incorporate more futuristic elements into furniture to create unique and practical seating solutions. - **360-degree Pivoting Chairs:** Opportunities for manufacturers to create swiveling chairs with an arched metal arm and patent-pending suspension for maximum comfort and functionality. - **Sculptural Loungers:** Opportunities for furniture designers to create stylish and comfortable seating options with a low incline and catch at the edge of the seat for added support. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Furniture Design:** Designers can incorporate these features into their products to create practical and unique furniture that stands out in the market. - **Office Furniture:** Manufacturers can utilize these features to create comfortable and functional office chairs that promote productivity. - **Hospitality and Entertainment:** Hotels and event venues can invest in these sculptural chairs to create a modern and unique seating experience for their guests. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Swivelling Chair Collections](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/swivel-series.md) - [Shapeshifting Spine-Like Work Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/spine-chair.md) - [Commanding Contemporary Swivel Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/occasional-swivel-chair.md) - [Swivelling Versatile Portable Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/360outdoor-chair.md) - [Swivelling Marbled Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/landmark-project.md) - [Flatpack Ultra-Modular Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/nebula-chair.md) - [All-Direction Wobbling Rocking Chair](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wobbling-rocking-chair.md) - [Circular Modernist Chair Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/zerogravity-chair.md) - [Shapeshifting Office-Ready Armchairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/egoitaliano-smirk.md)
