# Chainmail Chess Sets David Austin Captures the Past for a Classic Game Remake By Tisah Tucknott | Published 2009-08-26 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/chainmail-chess-sets-david-austin References: [gearfuse](http://www.gearfuse.com/chainmail-chess-set/) & [inewidea](http://www.inewidea.com/2009/08/25/9175.html) In my mind, I imagine chess being played by knights and kings in medieval times. David Austin has created this Chainmail Chess Set for those (like me) who like to dwell in the past. Created using stainless steel and bronze, this Chainmail Chess Set was made by using 035″ wire chainmail. Bring out your sword and competitive streak to take down your opponent in this pristine and ancient game. **Implications** - This beautiful [board game](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/luxury-board-game) would make a great gift for puzzle-fiends and scrupulous scholars. Its unique design will leave the recipient speechless as it is highly unusual and very rare in comparison to traditional wooden or plastic boards. Gather round this chainmail [chess set](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/mohmaya) with all of your best "check-mates" for a magnificently medieval time. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 2.5/10 - Popularity: 8% | Activity: 60% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 70% men, 30% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **Medieval-inspired Chess Sets:** Explore the rising popularity of chess sets with a medieval aesthetic, captivating history enthusiasts and puzzle enthusiasts alike. - **Unique Board Game Designs:** Discover the growing trend of board games being crafted with unconventional materials and designs, providing a fresh and visually appealing twist on classic games. - **Gifts for Puzzle Enthusiasts:** Uncover the demand for unique and eye-catching puzzles, offering a meaningful and engaging gift option for puzzle lovers. ### Where This Applies - **Board Games:** The board game industry can capitalize on the trend of creating chess sets inspired by historical periods, attracting a niche market of history enthusiasts and chess players. - **Gift and Specialty Retail:** The gift and specialty retail industry can tap into the demand for unique and visually stunning chess sets, providing an attractive option for puzzle enthusiasts and history buffs. - **Craft and Artisanal Products:** The craft and artisanal products industry has an opportunity to create custom chess sets, using unconventional materials and designs, catering to the growing market of board game collectors and enthusiasts. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Ceramic Chess Seating Sets](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/chair-chess.md) - [Celestial Anti-Conflict Chess Sets](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/another-kingdom-light-stage-chess-set.md) - [Electromagnetic Conduction Chess Sets](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/masteek-lightup-chess-set.md) - [Beautifully Artful Chess Sets](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/dune-chess-set.md) - [Minimalist Monolithic Chess Sets](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/minimalist-chess-set.md) - [Chocolate Chess Sets](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/compartes-chocolate-chess.md) - [Minimalist Artful Chessboards](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tarek-elkassouf.md) - [Opulent Automotive Chess Sets](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/rollsroyce-chess-set.md) - [Flat-Pack Chess Sets](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/jigsaw-chess-set.md)
