# Fence-Inspired Furniture The Chain Link Shelf is Made With Sports Gear in Mind By Meghan Young | Published 2012-06-16 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/chain-link-shelf References: [bookofjoe](http://www.bookofjoe.com/2012/06/chain-link-shelf.html) & [expodesigninc](http://www.expodesigninc.com/shelving-and-hardware/shelf-kits/chainlink-shelf.html) The Chain Link Shelf brings a bit of the outdoors inside, but not in the expected way. Instead of adding a touch of nature to the home or office, this piece of furniture simply introduces more of an [industrial aesthetic](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/barred-collection) that roughens up the joint. Full of unique character, the Chain Link Shelf may have a masculine quality about it, but it could certainly grace the home of a woman as well. Created by [Expo Design Inc](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/expo-cultural-park-greenhouse), the Chain Link Shelf was made with [sports gear](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/grip-hanger) in mind. Touch enough for such equipment, the designers also write that it is "great for Sports- and Urban-themed store[s]." Made to order, the shelving unit is constructed out of aluminum fittings, galvanized steel pipe and true steel chain link. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 2.1/10 - Popularity: 20% | Activity: 34% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 70% men, 30% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### What Makes This Trend Stand Out - **Industrial Aesthetic:** The trend for incorporating an industrial aesthetic into interior design creates opportunities for furniture designs like the Chain Link Shelf. - **Sports-themed Decor:** The rising popularity of sports-themed decor opens up a market for furniture pieces like the Chain Link Shelf that cater to sports enthusiasts. - **Customizable Furniture:** The demand for customizable furniture allows for the creation of unique pieces like the made-to-order Chain Link Shelf. ### Sectors Adopting This - **Furniture Manufacturing:** The furniture manufacturing industry can capitalize on the trend for industrial aesthetics by creating unique pieces like the Chain Link Shelf. - **Sporting Goods Retail:** Sporting goods retailers can tap into the sports-themed decor trend by offering furniture pieces like the Chain Link Shelf in their stores. - **Interior Design:** Interior designers can incorporate the customizable furniture trend into their projects by recommending unique pieces like the made-to-order Chain Link Shelf. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Modular Grid-Style Shelving](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bend-shelf-by-spenser-atlas.md) - [Folding Steel Shelving Systems](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pli-steel-wall-shelf.md) - [Customizable Style-Conscious Shelving](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ledoux-modular-shelf-system.md) - [Dynamic Storage-Display Shelves](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/shelf-life.md) - [Versatile Modern Shelves](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/utility-shelf.md) - [Room-Dividing Bookshelf Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/frquence-shelf.md) - [L-Shaped Stacked Shelving](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/loft-shelf.md) - [Handle-Equipped Planter Shelves](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/minimalist-plant-shelf.md) - [Clock-Accented Shelf Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/omega-shelf.md)
