This project was commissioned by the [European Capital of Culture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/european-space-agency-1) and involved the collaboration Colin Fournier, Marysia Lewandowska and London-based design practice [NEON](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/chorus-ventus) studio. Guests are invited to view a film in individual 'nozzles' that provide a viewing space within the installation. Sixteen of these nozzle modules allow visitors to experience an enclosed cinema space while their legs are rooted outside the structure. The installation is meant to represent the delicate balance between reality and fiction as it contrasts with the local scenery due to its modernistic design. Centipede Ceiling makes for a dynamic urban juxtaposition and stimulates involvement in culture for the residents of this Portuguese town. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 5.9/10 - Popularity: 87% | Activity: 81% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Architecture](https://www.trendhunter.com/architecture) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Unconventional Cinemas:** Innovative cinema viewing experiences like the Centipede Cinema provide opportunities for architecture and design firms to create unique and memorable spaces for movie-goers. - **Interactive Installations:** Interactive installations like the Centipede Cinema encourage business professionals in the art and cultural industries to explore ways to actively engage and immerse their audiences. - **Blending Reality and Fiction:** The use of modernistic design to create a contrast with traditional surroundings, as seen in Centipede Cinema, presents opportunities for businesses in the tourism industry to create experiential attractions that blend reality and fiction. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Architecture and Design:** Architectural firms could leverage unconventional cinema experiences to create memorable spaces that defy convention and provide unique viewing experiences. - **Art and Culture:** The use of interactive installations creates opportunities for cultural institutions to engage their audiences in new and innovative ways, ultimately increasing visitor engagement. - **Tourism:** Creating experiential attractions that blur the line between reality and fiction, such as the Centipede Cinema, could attract and engage tourists seeking unique and memorable experiences. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Tubed Immersive Organ-Like Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/organlike-installation.md) - [Cinema-Converted Cultural Centres](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tselinny-center-of-contemporary-culture.md) - [Curved Brick Hainan Cinemas](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/haikou-gaoxingli-insun-cinema.md) - [Billowing Modular Art Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/curly-cube.md) - [Living Structure-Based Pavilions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/canada-pavilion.md) - [Everchanging Water-Based Theaters](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/yichang-grand-theatre.md) - [Reflective Hemispherical Theater Stages](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ball-theater.md) - [Performance-Driven Public Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/fourth-wall.md) - [Cinema Screen Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cinema-screen-lamp.md)
