To honor the birth of King Khesar and Queen Jetsun's first child, the country asked all 82,000 households to plant a single tree. An additional 26,000 trees were then planted by volunteers for a grand total of 108,000. This exact number was chosen because 108 is a [sacred number in the Buddhist religion](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-green-album-by-califia-farms). Trees are also important to Buddhism, as they represent the provider and nourisher of all forms of life. As a result, each tree planted was sealed with a prayer and a wish from the person planting it that the prince will grow strong and healthy like the trees themselves. Bhutan's celebratory tree-planting campaign demonstrates that the country is well on its way to becoming one of the world's most [eco-friendly nations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/dominica). ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 1.1/10 - Popularity: 17% | Activity: 9% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Eco](https://www.trendhunter.com/eco) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Eco-friendly Celebrations:** Countries and organizations celebrate significant events by planting trees, indicating a trend towards sustainable practices. - **Tree-planting Campaigns:** Tree-planting campaigns gain popularity as an effective tool for environmental conservation and awareness. - **Sacred Significance of 108:** The number 108 holds a sacred significance in various religions and inspires individuals and societies towards sustainable practices. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Environmental Conservation:** Companies and organizations can support tree-planting campaigns and other initiatives promoting sustainability to contribute to environmental conservation. - **Religious Tourism:** The sacred significance of nature in different religions can promote religious tourism and eco-friendly practices. - **Education and Awareness:** Educational institutions and awareness organizations can conduct tree-planting campaigns as a tool for educating people about the importance of environmental conservation. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Tree-Planting Spa Initiatives](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/environmental-sustainability-program.md) - [Distiller Tree Planting Initiatives](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/redwood-empire-whiskey.md) - [Tree-Planting Retail Initiatives](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/albertsons-companies.md) - [Regal Birthday-Commemorating Coins](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/king-charles-iii-1.md) - [Carbon-Neutral LED Trees](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/led-tree.md) - [In-Game Tree-Planting Initatives](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/match-masters.md) - [Newly Built Mindfulness Cities](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/gelephu-mindfulness-city.md) - [Community Tree-Planting Applications](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/furthr.md) - [Botanically Inspired Fashion Lines](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/burberry-x-highgrove.md)
