# Future-Forward Cathedral Designs Alex Nerovnya's Cathedral Concept for Notre-Dame is Contemporary By Kalin Ned | Published 2019-05-15 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cathedral-concept References: [instagram](https://www.instagram.com/alex_nerovnya/) In the cathedral concepts for France's competition for the Notre-Dame rebuild, designers are embracing contemporary architecture. As many are finding it hard to move beyond the ultra-romantic connotations that were partially lost during the great fire earlier this year, this take might prove to be somewhat controversial. The vision is facilitated by Russian architect Alex Nerovnya and the aim is to utilize contemporary "knowledge and architectural achievement to make [the Notre-Dame cathedral] better." It is not hard to imagine why the public might seem reluctant to side with a cathedral concept that radically switches the material that was expected — surely a glass-roofed Notre-Dame is quite divergent from the original. However, Alex Nerovnya pushes the boundaries of cathedral design and attempts to motivate his audience to think in new and change-focused ways. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 0.8/10 - Popularity: 11% | Activity: 6% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Contemporary Cathedral Designs:** Embracing contemporary architecture in cathedral designs presents an opportunity for disruptive innovation in the construction industry. - **Utilizing Architectural Achievement:** The use of architectural knowledge and achievement in cathedral rebuilds opens up possibilities for disruptive innovation in the architecture and design industry. - **Pushing the Boundaries of Cathedral Design:** Pushing the boundaries of traditional cathedral design can lead to disruptive innovation in the heritage preservation and restoration industry. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Construction:** Contemporary cathedral designs offer new opportunities for disruption and innovation in the construction industry. - **Architecture and Design:** The use of architectural knowledge and achievement in cathedral rebuilds presents disruptive innovation opportunities in the architecture and design industry. - **Heritage Preservation and Restoration:** Pushing the boundaries of cathedral design creates opportunities for disruptive innovation in the heritage preservation and restoration industry. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Angular Church Matte Extensions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/red-church.md) - [Historical Architecture Game Blocks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lego-notre-dame-set.md) - [Reflection-Encouraging Cohesive Churches](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hjvangen-church.md) - [Albanian Sleek Concrete Chuches](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/narac-church.md) - [Building Plan Design Exhibitions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/jean-nouvel-2.md) - [Harmoniously Designed Champagne House](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/nicolas-ruinart-pavilion.md) - [Adaptive Paris Museums](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-fondation-cartier.md) - [Cathedral-Inspired Football Kits](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/football-kit-design.md) - [Unique 3D Printing Concepts](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/3d-printed-church.md)
