The accommodating interior features a large, [built-in bookshelf](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/twoinone-billy-model) that occupies an entire wall that runs from the front of the living room to the back of the newly renovated Brooklyn home. Integrated into the shelving unit are a series of shelves that create steps which the family cat can access and climb. These steps rise vertically, leading up to an "observation ledge," which offers the animal a place to sleep and explore from an elevated vantage point. To make matters even more exciting, this cat-friendly bookshelf features [trap doors](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/onlycat), which enable the cat to enter rooms on the second floor of the house. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 5.8/10 - Popularity: 87% | Activity: 80% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### What Makes This Trend Stand Out - **Cat-friendly Home Design:** Designing homes with cat-friendly features, such as built-in bookshelves and climbing steps, provides innovative solutions for cat owners. - **Integration of Pet-focused Amenities:** The integration of trap doors and observation ledges in furniture allows for a seamless coexistence of pets and their owners, opening up opportunities for creative and functional designs. - **Enhancing Pet Ownership Experience:** Creating specialized furniture that caters to the needs of pets not only enhances their comfort but also fosters a stronger bond between owners and their furry friends. ### Sectors Adopting This - **Interior Design:** The interior design industry can capitalize on the trend of cat-friendly home features by incorporating innovative designs and functional cat-focused furniture elements. - **Pet Furniture Manufacturing:** Pet furniture manufacturers can explore the market demand for cat-friendly furniture, such as built-in bookshelves, trap doors, and climbing steps, offering pet owners a wide range of options. - **Construction and Renovation:** Construction and renovation companies can tap into the demand for cat-friendly home design by offering customized solutions and incorporating pet-focused features into their projects. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Vertical Feline Residences](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cat-tree-house-2.md) - [Cat-Friendly Seat Concepts](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/jingcyuan-tang.md) - [Cat-Friendly Minimal Desk Concepts](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cat-cubby-desk.md) - [Cityscape-Like Cat Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/mocats.md) - [Modular Cat-Friendly Couches](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/quarter-sofa.md) - [Cat-Focused Wooden Cafes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tristy-of-the-cats.md) - [Feline-Focused Modern Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cat-tree-house-1.md) - [Cat-Catered Large Japanese Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/a-cat-tree-house.md) - [Cat Tree Furniture Concepts](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/slash-cat-tree.md)
