# Lovely Layered Seating The Slip 'n' Slide Catacaos Chair by Otero Design Studio By Marissa Liu | Published 2009-10-15 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/catacaos-chair References: [otero-d](http://otero-d.com/default.htm) The Catacaos Chair by South American industrial design firm Otero Design Studio evokes light. The flexible layers of plastic create the effect of movement and buoyancy and play with the imagination. The pliable plastic sheets that cover the chair adjust when someone is seated to form a comfortable and conforming back rest that aids posture. The Catacaos Chair almost resembles a slip and slide. It comes in several different colors and can have a cool graphic printed onto the plastic. Aside from colorful plastic sheets the Catacaos Chair is constructed from aluminum and polycarbonate. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 1.1/10 - Popularity: 22% | Activity: 3% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 10% men, 90% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### What's Driving This Trend - **Flexible Seating:** The Catacaos Chair demonstrates the trend of seating that is malleable, conforming to and supporting the body for maximum comfort and health benefits. - **Graphic Furniture:** The Catacaos Chair showcases the trend of furniture items that feature bold visuals or patterns to create a distinctive look and feel. - **Plastic Layering:** The Catacaos Chair features plastic layers arranged in a way that creates the appearance of movement, inspiring designers to explore different methods of incorporating this technique in their own products. ### Who This Affects Most - **Furniture:** The Catacaos Chair offers the furniture industry a unique design concept that promotes comfort and health, prompting designers to explore new ways to incorporate flexible materials in their products. - **Interior Design:** The Catacaos Chair can inspire interior designers looking for furniture with bold visual appeal to incorporate graphic elements into their designs in unique and unexpected ways. - **Manufacturing:** The Catacaos Chair showcases a novel approach to integrating different materials in a single product, inspiring manufacturers to experiment with new ways of blending materials to achieve visually stunning and functional results. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Sustainable Dynamic Structured Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/taco-chair.md) - [Layered Material Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/kartela.md) - [Sustainable Structural Chair Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-limbo-chair.md) - [Colorful Metal Outdoor Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cesto-chair.md) - [Soothing Boat-Like Lounge Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/canoa-chair.md) - [Colorful Flat-Packed Sustainable Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/oto.md) - [Ultra-Precise Woven Chair Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/woven-chair-design.md) - [Ancient-Tinged Juxtaposing Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/coliseum-chair.md) - [Naturalistic Grass-Inspired Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-flip-chair.md)
