# Table-Encompassing Rugs The Cassette Carpet Features Slits for Slotting in Side Tables By Amelia Roblin | Published 2014-03-08 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cassette-carpet References: [gregoiredelafforest](http://www.gregoiredelafforest.com/) A nice thick floor treatment such as the Cassette carpet might leave small-footed furnishings unstable when they're placed on top. One solution to this is to plant side tables directly and firmly onto the floor and to wrap the mat around them. This is precisely what you are seeing with Gregoire de Lafforest's design. He's created a [large area rug](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/newstalgia-collection) with slits made in the material deliberately, enabling you to slot in the bases of [one-legged coffee tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tong-side-table) like these and to have the material conceal the foundation completely. Now look closely at the Cassette carpet and consider its name. This elegant item was a special commission that is intended to resemble a retro musical device.
