# Modest Modernist Trollies Cart by Bao-Nghi Droste Uses an Old Style to Revive an Even Older Object By Amelia Roblin | Published 2012-02-13 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cart-by-bao-nghi-droste References: [stilsucht.de](http://www.stilsucht.de/02/2012/cart/) & [bao-nghi](http://www.bao-nghi.com/) The iconic domestic serving trolly has long been out of use in the Western world but, through Cart by Bao-Nghi Droste, younger generations can discover this historical object. Interestingly, they will do so without the knowledge that the originals would likely not have taken this form. The gilded and [sculptural metal frame](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-ferro-capsule) has been abandoned in this modern model, keen to exhibit its clean and slender stilts, its [flat planes and its material austerity](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/dpartment). Of course, this isn't to say that the piece lacks elegance. On the contrary, the subtle woodgrain texture that covers the trolley's compartment and wheels exudes a timeless beauty. In its own [mid-20th century](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tortugaware) way, Cart by Bao-Nghi Droste is the epitome of posh, and well representative of affluent owners. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 1.1/10 - Popularity: 13% | Activity: 11% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### What Makes This Trend Stand Out - **Domestic Trolley Revival:** Restoring and modernizing iconic domestic trolleys for modern use. - **Minimalist Aesthetic:** Using minimalism to create sleek and beautiful domestic trolleys. - **Unexpected Materiality:** Creating domestic trolleys with unexpected materials and textures. ### Sectors Adopting This - **Furniture:** Creating modern furniture pieces inspired by historical designs and aesthetics. - **Household Accessories:** Designing household accessories that combine function and aesthetic appeal. - **Home Decor:** Creating unique and elegant home decor items that incorporate historical design elements. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Stylish Shopping Trolleys](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/roulette-carts.md) - [Contemporary Home Party Trolley](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-diner.md) - [Luxurious Bar Carts](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/luxurious-bar-cart.md) - [Artful Colorful Bar Carts](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/jolly-trolley-1.md) - [All-in-One Timber Bar Carts](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/moba-drinks-trolley.md) - [Circular Rolling Bar Carts](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/rolly-bar-cart.md) - [Thoughtful Wheeling Cabinets](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cabinet-on-wheels.md) - [Harbor-Inspired Storage Trolleys](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/harbor-051.md) - [Connected Automotive Furniture Pieces](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/volvo-lifestyler-trolley.md)
