Although beer purists might argue that carbonation can't be maintained in cardboard kegs, this new design by Australian student Thomas Hussey might prove them wrong.

These four-liter cardboard kegs are less costly and [more environmentally friendly](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/moosehead-breweries) than bottles, traditional kegs, or cans.

As proof of the design quality, the 'Beer Box' is currently in contention for the Australian Design Award in the student category.

**Implications** - Hussey claims that he wanted to create something that would "reduce the environmental effects, but also reduce cost and provide a marketing benefit." The smart student realizes that it is nice to make something that is [eco-friendly](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/gochill-cooler), but it is important to interest the consumer market if it is going to be a success.
