# Cantilevered Wooden Houses Keisuke Maeda of UID Architects Designs a Classy Building Block Home By Meghan Young | Published 2014-10-15 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cantilevered-wooden-house References: [design-milk](http://design-milk.com/node-cantilevered-home-inspired-birds-house/) & [maeda-inc.jp](http://www.maeda-inc.jp/uid/current_projects/eng_node2012.html) Likened to a real life building block home, which is thankfully made out of a material other than [colorful plastic](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/capsule-tower), the cantilevered wooden house is unusual on a variety of levels. Yet it has a streamlined modern aesthetic that lands it in the timeless category with ease. Dubbed +node, the cantilevered wooden house is minimalist overall, which makes such a designation quite easy. Designed by Keisuke Maeda of UID architects, the cantilevered wooden house is [located in Japan](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/yawn-yard). As written on Design Milk, "The sloped site meets at a 'node' point where nature and man-made intersect, hence the name of the project." The true beauty behind the cantilevered wooden house is that it works with the surrounding landscape rather than against it. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 3.5/10 - Popularity: 54% | Activity: 42% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 70% men, 30% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Architecture](https://www.trendhunter.com/architecture) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Cantilevered Architecture:** There are opportunities for eco-conscious architects to explore and innovate new design structures using minimal and eco-friendly materials. - **Minimalist Aesthetics:** Companies can innovate and launch minimalist home decor collections that compliment the streamlined aesthetic of these cantilevered wooden houses. - **Sustainable Building Materials:** More companies can explore, improve and promote the use of sustainable building materials in an effort to build eco-friendly housing that integrates with natural landscapes like the +node house. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Architecture:** The architecture industry can adopt the cantilevered design technique and utilize eco-friendly materials that will cater to the growing need for eco-friendly and streamlined building designs. - **Home Decor:** Home decor and furniture companies have an opportunity to develop a collection with a minimalist aesthetic to compliment homes with a similar design theme. - **Sustainable Building Materials Manufacturing:** Manufacturers that develop and promote the use of sustainable building materials have an opportunity to provide architects with a more eco-friendly approach to building design and construction. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Concrete Block-Formed Residences](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/blockwall-house.md) - [Roof-Planed Cascading Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/worrell-yeung.md) - [Faceted Cedar Houses](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-house-on-a-hill.md) - [Modular Wooden Holiday Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/piil.md) - [Angled Concrete Forest Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/block-wall-house.md) - [Contemporary Timber Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/house-in-saidera.md) - [Sleek Modular German Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/house-anton-ii.md) - [Wooden Screened Cantilevered Home](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/elbow-house.md) - [Flood-Mitigating Wooden Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ushijima-architects.md)
