This cantilevered bedroom by [Ateliers MC](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/samuel-paty-school) can be found in an old converted warehouse in Montreal, Canada, commissioned by a couple that wished to make the most of their shrinking apartment. With a brand new baby and all of the accessories to accompany it, space became tight in the one-room studio. The architectural firm's remedy was to create a sort of mezzanine, still open to the entire flat, but raise one particular section to free up more floor. The cantilevered bedroom by Ateliers MC comprises a suspended platform sculpted from a beautiful sunken wood plane. A double bed is nested snugly within this space below the ceiling, accessible by a ladder next to the [infant's crib](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/parry-cot). ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 6.6/10 - Popularity: 91% | Activity: 98% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### What Makes This Trend Stand Out - **Bunk Bed Master Suites:** Bunk beds are no longer just for kids and military accommodation, but are now found as a space-saving solution in compact urban lofts. - **Cantilevered Bedrooms:** Cantilevered bedrooms provide a unique mezzanine option to maximize space. - **Sunken Wood Planes:** Sunken wood planes provide a beautiful and unique design element for suspended furniture. ### Sectors Adopting This - **Interior Design Industry:** Interior design firms can explore creative and unique solutions for maximizing space in increasingly compact urban dwellings. - **Furniture Industry:** Furniture makers can consider innovative ways to create suspended furniture that maximizes floor space in small apartments. - **Construction Industry:** Construction companies can take advantage of the rising trend of cantilevered bedrooms in compact living spaces by designing and building innovative structures. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Overhead Storage Single Beds](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/otto-cobbo-bed.md) - [Reversible Mid-High Bed Concepts](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/big-eyes-bed.md) - [Youth Gamer Bunk Beds](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/gaming-bunk-bed.md) - [Inversion Living Concepts](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tiny-getaway.md) - [Reimagined Minimal Parisian Apartments](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/minimalist-cocoon.md) - [Single-Floor Tiny Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/quadrapol-capucine.md) - [Renovated Compact Loft Apartments](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/vessel-project.md) - [Terrace-Topped Tiny Houses](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bth-loft.md) - [Modular Childhood Bed Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/rocksolid-bed-system.md)
