This brand new camera picks up where the 5D Mark II left off three years ago, by ensuring the Canon-branded cameras are leaders in the [professional photography and video world](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/boundaries-of-imaging-technology). Amazingly, the Canon EOS-1D X is built from magnesium alloy making it almost completely weather proof. The still-image user will have a field day with the camera, as it can shoot up to 12 frames per second, includes an [18-megapixel full-frame CMOS sensor](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/panasonic-s1-rii) and dual DIGIC 5+ image processors. For video use, the 1D X is Canon’s first camera to exceed the 4GB filming limit. The file-splitting function allows continuous recording up to 30 minutes by separating the footage into multiple 4GB files with no frames dropped. The files can then be easily connected using video-editing software. Another impressive feature is the audio recording meter that can be seen on the screen and adjusted while recording. The Canon EOS-1D X will have a price tag of around $6,800 and will be hitting the shelves by March 2012. Start saving up, because this camera is going to set a brand new bar for DSLRs. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 3.4/10 - Popularity: 41% | Activity: 53% | Freshness: 8% ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Tech](https://www.trendhunter.com/tech) > [Multimedia](https://www.trendhunter.com/multimedia) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Professional Dslrs:** The release of the Canon EOS-1D X showcases the ongoing trend of developing high-quality professional DSLRs for both still-image and video use. - **Weatherproof Cameras:** The magnesium alloy construction of the Canon EOS-1D X highlights a growing trend of making weatherproof cameras that are durable and resistant. - **Extended Filming Functionality:** The Canon EOS-1D X's ability to exceed the 4GB filming limit demonstrates a trend in offering extended filming functionality with features like file-splitting and continuous recording. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Professional Photography Equipment:** The release of the Canon EOS-1D X will impact the professional photography equipment industry by setting a new bar for high-quality DSLRs. - **Camera Manufacturing:** The trend of creating weatherproof cameras with durable construction may disrupt the camera manufacturing industry by changing consumer expectations and preferences. - **Video Editing Software:** The extended filming functionality of cameras like the Canon EOS-1D X creates an opportunity for disruption in the video editing software industry by requiring new tools for editing and combining multiple 4GB files. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Camera and Lens Announcements](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lens-announcements.md) - [Cinema-Quality Mirrorless Cameras](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/canon-eos-r5-c-digital-camera.md) - [Advanced Camera Announcements](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/canon-unveils.md) - [Subject-Tracking 4K Cameras](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/subjecttracking-4k-camera.md) - [Full-Frame Mirrorless Cameras](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/eos-r1.md) - [Ultra-High Res Mirrorless Cameras](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/x2d-100c.md) - [Video-Focused Integrated Cooling Cameras](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/canon-powershot-v1.md) - [Compact Versatile Cameras](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/canon-eos-c50.md) - [Mirrorless Interchangeable Cameras](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/eos-r100.md) - [High-Performance Content Creator Cameras](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/canon-eos-r50-v.md)
