# Candle-Powered Phone Chargers This USB-Connected Candle Charger Uses Heat to Power Phones By Ady Floyd | Published 2015-07-20 | Eco Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/candle-charger References: [treehugger](http://www.treehugger.com/gadgets/candle-powered-usb-charger-provides-emergency-power-mobile-devices.html) & [kickstarter](https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/flamestower/candle-charger-emergency-power-generator-for-smart?ref=video) Stower has designed a Candle Charger that uses a candle holder connected to a USB outlet to provide a charge to smartphones. The Candle Charger looks like a miniature campfire cooker. The candle sits on the bottom while a small bowl filled with water sits on the top. When the candle is lit, it will heat the water, which is connected to a USB outlet. Once the charge is strong enough it will actually become a [phone charger](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/vstmrke) and bring power to cellphones. This handy device is an old-school way to stay connected with modern technology. It's the perfect household tool to have in case of a [power outage](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/arkeep-halo) or a larger environmental emergency. A campaign has been launched on [Kickstarter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/caheo-camping-lantern) so that Stower can bring this unique charger to consumers. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 5.3/10 - Popularity: 77% | Activity: 73% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Eco](https://www.trendhunter.com/eco) ## Key Themes ### What Makes This Trend Stand Out - **Emergency Preparedness:** The Candle Charger provides an opportunity for businesses to create emergency preparedness kits with modern technology solutions. - **Alternative Energy Sources:** Candle-powered chargers represent a potential for innovation in the exploration of alternative sources of energy. - **Sustainability:** The use of Candle Chargers represents an opportunity for green innovation, as a sustainable alternative to traditional phone chargers. ### Sectors Adopting This - **Emergency Preparedness:** The Candle Charger represents an opportunity for businesses to streamline emergency preparedness for households and businesses. - **Outdoor Recreation:** Outdoor recreation businesses can incorporate Candle Chargers in their range of camping and outdoor living accessories. - **Sustainable Living:** Sustainable living businesses can partner with Stower and other candle-powered tech companies to create innovative solutions for clean energy. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Power Bank Cup Warmers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cup-warmer.md) - [Vintage-Inspired Candle Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/vintageinspired-candle-lamps.md) - [Candle Coffee Warmers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/warmer-concept.md) - [Intentional Disconnection Device Chargers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/share-power.md) - [Smart Candle Warmer Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/candle-warmer-lamp.md) - [Smartphone-Charging Lemonade Cups](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/panera-charged-up-cup.md) - [Flickering Candle-Inspired Lanterns](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/nebo-big-poppy.md) - [Smart Candle-Warming Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/switchbot-candle-warmer-lamp.md) - [Mechanical Candle-Inspired Timers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/candle-timer.md)
