# Hollow Outdoor Kettles The Ghillie Camping Kettle Works to Heat Water from the Inside-Out By Michael Hemsworth | Published 2017-04-20 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/camping-kettle References: [werd](http://www.werd.com/38785/the-ghillie-camping-kettle-heats-from-the-inside-out/) & [woodcookstove](https://www.woodcookstove.com/camping-kettles.html) Rather than requiring placement on a [fire or stove](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/snow-peak-home-camp-burner) in order to be heated, the Ghillie Camping Kettle is designed to actually hold the fire within in order to heat water from the inside-out. The kettle is designed with a hollow portion that works by being filled with [kindling, leaves and other biomass](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/antarcti-gas-fire-pit) in order to get a small fire going on the interior. This process heats the chamber that then heats the water to a boil without having to start a fire or rely on other means when in the great outdoors. The Ghillie Camping Kettle has the nickname "volcano kettle" and, given the design aesthetic, is quite suited to this moniker. The kettle can be purchased from the company in [three size options](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tetra) to suit different needs. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 4.8/10 - Popularity: 81% | Activity: 54% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) ## Key Themes ### What Makes This Trend Stand Out - **Internal Fire Heating:** Opportunity to create innovative products that use internal fire heating to heat water or other substances. - **Portable Biomass Heating:** Disruptive innovation potential in developing portable and efficient biomass heating systems for outdoor activities. - **Alternative Outdoor Cooking:** Opportunity to explore alternative methods of outdoor cooking that rely on innovative designs like hollow outdoor kettles. ### Sectors Adopting This - **Camping Equipment:** The camping equipment industry can explore the potential of creating innovative hollow kettles and other fire heating products for outdoor enthusiasts. - **Outdoor Recreation:** Opportunity for the outdoor recreation industry to incorporate and offer hollow outdoor kettles as a convenient and environmentally-friendly option for heating water during camping and other outdoor activities. - **Sustainable Energy:** Disruptive innovation opportunity for the sustainable energy industry to develop efficient and portable biomass heating solutions that can be used in various outdoor settings. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Tumbler-Inspired Kettles](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/electric-travel-kettle.md) - [Eclectic Camping Cook Kits](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/camping-cooking-kit.md) - [Compact Portable Campfire Device](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/firecan.md) - [Portable Electric Pots](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/portable-electric-pot.md) - [Portable Compact Kettles](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/foldable-kettle.md) - [Camping-Friendly Compact Cookware](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/yunsoo-choi.md) - [Renewable Energy Camping Grills](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/adventure-boilgrill.md) - [Dual-Purpose Camping Stoves](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/fire-maple-sunflower-x.md) - [Convertible Outdoor Cooking Systems](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cooking-systems.md)
