# Intricate Paper Sculptures Calvin Nicholls Creates Stunning 3D Art Pieces By Meghan Young | Published 2011-02-17 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/calvin-nicholls References: [behance.net](http://www.behance.net/gallery/Follett-Library-Resources-Hummingbird/753955) & [calvinnicholls](http://calvinnicholls.com) Although I've seen some stunning paper art pieces before, Calvin Nicholls' work is so incredible that it's hard to believe it was created with just paper. Intricately three-dimensional, this impressive portfolio features everything from animals to advertising. Based in Toronto, Canada, Calvin Nicholls has been working with paper since 1986. Working with just sheets of paper and a scalpel, his completed sculptures are photographed in special lighting so that all the details are apparent. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 5.9/10 - Popularity: 86% | Activity: 83% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 30% men, 70% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) ## Key Themes ### What's Driving This Trend - **Intricate Paper Art:** Exploring the use of intricate paper art in various industries to create visually stunning and unique products. - **3D Paper Sculptures:** Embracing the art of creating intricate and realistic 3D paper sculptures for artistic installations and displays. - **Photography and Paper Art:** Exploring the combination of photography and paper art to capture the intricate details and textures of paper sculptures in a visually striking way. ### Who This Affects Most - **Art and Design:** Utilizing intricate paper art to create innovative and visually appealing sculptures, installations, and artworks. - **Advertising and Marketing:** Using 3D paper sculptures as an attention-grabbing and unique advertising tool for brands and campaigns. - **Photography and Fine Art:** Blending the art of photography and paper sculptures to create captivating and visually striking fine art pieces. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Paper-Made Mosaic Artwork](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/real-life-architecture-exhibition.md) - [Stunning Origami Portraits](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/origami-portaits.md) - [Sculptural Mixed-Media Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/folded-echoes.md) - [3D-Printed Paper Knives](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/paper-knives.md) - [Geometric Wooden Art Sculptures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/aleph-geddis.md) - [Paper Curvature Lights](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/paper-curves.md) - [3D-Printed Flip Books](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/stl-sculptures.md) - [Otherworldly Wooden Art](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wooden-sculptures-1.md) - [Origami-Inspired Porcelain Art](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/saori-matsushita.md)
