# Zoomorphic Computer Peripherals The Butterfly Keyboard is Inspired by the Flying Insect By Meghan Young | Published 2012-02-25 | Tech Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/butterfly-keyboard References: [designbuzz](http://www.designbuzz.com/butterfly-keyboard-flaunts-pleasing-ergonomic-shape.html) & [coroflot](http://www.coroflot.com/ianleonard/Butterfly-Keyboard) The Butterfly Keyboard may look like it was made to target the fairer sex, but it was actually designed for a more ergonomic positioning of the hands while typing. The traditional keyboard is split in half, offshooting up and outwards to accommodate a more comfortable angle of the arms and wrists. Conceived by Ireland-based designer Ian Leonard, who recently graduated with a BSc Product Design degree, the Butterfly Keyboard takes on a [zoomorphic design](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/keyboard-design1) by reflecting the physical aspects of the flying insect it portrays. In addition to the health benefits of the Butterfly Keyboard, it also provides a peaceful environment for working individuals. It boasts touch buttons that emit a tranquil LED blue glow around the edge of the computer accessory. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 2.8/10 - Popularity: 32% | Activity: 43% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 30% men, 70% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Tech](https://www.trendhunter.com/tech) > [Computers](https://www.trendhunter.com/computers) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Ergonomic Computer Peripherals:** The Butterfly Keyboard showcases the trend of designing computer peripherals with ergonomic features for improved comfort and health benefits. - **Zoomorphic Design:** The Butterfly Keyboard represents the trend of incorporating nature-inspired aesthetics into the design of computer peripherals, creating a unique and visually appealing user experience. - **Tranquil Workspace Accessories:** The Butterfly Keyboard taps into the trend of creating peaceful work environments by featuring touch buttons that emit a calming LED blue glow, enhancing the overall ambiance. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Computer Peripheral Manufacturing:** The Butterfly Keyboard presents an opportunity for computer peripheral manufacturers to create innovative and ergonomic products that cater to the growing demand for comfort and health-conscious designs. - **Product Design:** The Butterfly Keyboard highlights an opportunity for product designers to explore zoomorphic design and incorporate nature-inspired elements into their creations, enhancing the aesthetics and user experience. - **Workspace Accessories:** The Butterfly Keyboard opens up possibilities for workspace accessory manufacturers to develop tranquil and ambient products that promote a peaceful working environment and enhance productivity. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Timber-Accented Keyboard Peripherals](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/corant-c10-keyboard.md) - [Ergonomic Natural Movement Keyboards](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/flow-keyboard.md) - [Compact Cushioned Keyboard Peripherals](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hue-bluetooth-keyboard.md) - [Stylishly Functional PC Peripherals](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/waia-neo.md) - [AI Button-Customized Keyboards](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/incase-compact-ergonomic-keyboard.md) - [Sleek Wireless Split Keyboards](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wing45.md) - [Modular Hexagonal Cap Keyboards](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/kbird-spec-project.md) - [Ergonomic Magnetic Component Keyboards](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/nuio-flow-keyboard.md) - [Glove-Like Keyboard Peripherals](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/glove80-keyboard.md)
