# Burnt Furniture The Latest Design Trend? I seem to recall that is started by blackening crystal chandeliers and sconces. Not too long after this, I noticed this chair at a few different shops. This chair goes to a bit more of an extreme to give the chair a blackened effect: the manufacturer burns the chair. Thus, the name the “Smoke Chair”. Once the chair has been thoroughly smoked giving its finish a scaly, crackly skin, its covered with a laquer to protect the user from being covered in ashes. If you have a chance to see this chair in person, I would compare it's appearance to a lizard wearing a leather coat. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 3.9/10 - Popularity: 41% | Activity: 67% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### What's Driving This Trend - **Burnt Design Objects:** Opportunity for designers to experiment with burning other design objects for a unique and edgy look. - **Smoky Finishing Technique:** The use of smoky finishing technique on other furniture or home accessories could create a new line in home decor. - **Blackened Effect:** Incorporating a blackened effect in design objects, furniture or home accessories could disrupt the traditional design world. ### Who This Affects Most - **Interior Design:** Interior Designers could explore burnt furniture as a new design trend to incorporate in their projects for a modern edgy look. - **Furniture Manufacturing:** Furniture Manufacturers could use smoky finishing techniques to produce unique furniture pieces that stand out in the market. - **Home Accessories:** Home accessory designers could experiment with the blackened effect to produce a new line of products in this style. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Sleek Black Furniture Varnishes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/black-teak.md) - [Music-Inspired Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/modern-chair1.md) - [Modern Design-Exploring Art Objects](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pratone-chair.md) - [Waste-Incorporated Chair Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/knoll-chairs.md) - [Slick Futuristic Chair Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/classical-norwegian-design.md) - [Flamboyant Vintage-Inspired Armchairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/quiltana-armchair.md) - [Timeless Contemporary Dynamic Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bodo-sperlein.md) - [Slick Eco-Conscious Chair Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ecoconscious-chair-design.md) - [Leather-Accented Industrial Seating](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/l1-chair-from-object-leuci.md)
