# Burnt Ceiling Murals Olivier Kosta-Thefaine's Elaborate Lighter Graffiti By Rachel | Published 2009-11-03 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/burnt-ceiling-murals References: [yatzer](http://www.yatzer.com/1975_olivier_kosta-thefaine_and_his_magic_lighter) & [olivierkostathefaine](http://www.olivierkostathefaine.com/) Olivier Kosta-Théfaine is a patient man. Using a [single lighter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/infra-luna-20), the artist scorches paint on ceilings to create burnt ceiling murals. While some of the burnt ceiling murals look like [haphazard graffiti](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/surreal-street-art-1), some are incredibly detailed and focused. The final result in both cases is an impressive display and definitely an interesting medium. Check out the crazy patient work of Olivier Kosta-Thefaine above, and wonder with me with regards to how long each of these would take! ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 2.4/10 - Popularity: 54% | Activity: 9% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial - Top markets: North America ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Modern](https://www.trendhunter.com/modern) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **Burnt Ceiling Murals:** Opportunity for artists to explore a unique and visually striking form of mural creation using burnt paint on ceilings. - **Elaborate Lighter Graffiti:** Innovative use of a single lighter to create intricate and detailed graffiti artworks, offering a new avenue for expression. - **Patient Artwork Creation:** Exploration of patience as an artistic trait, showcasing the dedication and meticulousness required to create stunning burnt ceiling murals. ### Where This Applies - **Art and Design:** Opportunity for artists and designers to experiment with burnt ceiling murals as a provocative and captivating art form. - **Graffiti and Street Art:** Integration of elaborate lighter graffiti into the urban art scene, disrupting traditional spray paint techniques. - **Interior Design:** Incorporation of burnt ceiling murals as a unique and immersive element in interior spaces, transforming the way we perceive and interact with our surroundings. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Explosion-Damaged Sculpture Series](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/light-into-darkness.md) - [Architecturally Inspired Candles](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sfumato-candle.md) - [Artful Heated Candle Warmers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/infra-luna.md) - [Paper-Made Mosaic Artwork](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/real-life-architecture-exhibition.md) - [Distorted Furniture Street Art](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/first-kiss-at-last-light.md) - [Exquisite Time Lapse Candles](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/xl-porcelain-candles.md) - [Tree Branch-Formed Lighting Series](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/celestial-attraction.md) - [Volcanic-Themed Light Sculptures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/stone-archive.md) - [Volcanic Lighting Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lighting-installation.md)
