# Crooked Timber Escritoires The Bureau B011 Offers a Smooth Surface with Broken Lines Beneath By Amelia Roblin | Published 2013-10-01 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bureau-b011 References: [archidesignclub](http://www.archidesignclub.com/magazine/rubriques/design/45397-frédéric-richard-bureau-b011.html) & [frederic-richard.be](http://www.frederic-richard.be/?x=0&f=projets&com=fr) There is a bit of an [optical illusion](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/siembra-capsule) occurring within the Bureau B011, tricking the eyes -- at first glance -- into thinking that it would perform poorly as a desk. The quirky piece of furniture must offer a level and flat surface in order to serve its function, yet it might initially appear as though it's lacking one of those. Designer Frédéric Richard did give his [office furnishing](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bisley-align) a smooth tabletop, supported by two sturdy oak wood legs at the front and a pair of white-painted metal ones at the back. The slender rear posts are barely visible, making it look like the Bureau B011 is impossibly balanced. Furthermore, the [storage cubbies](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ratio-series) beneath the work surface are formed with slanted timber panels. These zigzag and visibly offset the straight line established above. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 3.1/10 - Popularity: 62% | Activity: 24% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### What's Driving This Trend - **Optical Illusion Furniture:** Designers can create furniture pieces that are visually deceptive by utilizing optical illusions to create unique and intriguing furniture designs. - **Quirky Office Furniture:** There's a growing demand for playful and aesthetically interesting office furniture that can both improve productivity and lighten the work environment. - **Geometry-inspired Furniture Design:** Furniture designers are increasingly incorporating geometric patterns and shapes into their creations as a way to add intrigue and complexity to their designs. ### Who This Affects Most - **Furniture Manufacturing:** Furniture manufacturers can create visually interesting and unique pieces by utilizing materials and techniques that play with perception and visual illusions. - **Office Design:** Office designers can use quirky and unconventional furniture designs as a way to create stimulating work environments that help to boost productivity and creativity. - **Interior Design:** Interior designers can leverage the growing trend towards geometry-inspired furniture design to create compelling and unique interior spaces that capture people's attention. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Fold-Out WFH Desks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/writing-bureau.md) - [Ergonomic Multi-Use Desk Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/kabinett-desk.md) - [Minimalist Storage-Friendly Desks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-bold-desk.md) - [Minimalist Storage-Paired Workstations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/diag-desk.md) - [Minimalist Demure Designer Desks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/backup-desk.md) - [Sleek Storage-Packed Workstations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/threesix-desk.md) - [Minimalist Modular Creative Workstations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/note-desk.md) - [Multilevel Minimalist Office Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-office-table.md) - [Futuristic Sculptural Desks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/arnardo-desk.md)
