# Wall-Mounted Wishbone Installations Brood by Kate MccGwire is a Tribute to Slain Chicken By Meghan Young | Published 2012-04-11 | Social Good Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/brood-by-kate-mccgwire1 References: [mymodernmet](http://www.mymodernmet.com/profiles/blogs/kate-mccgwire-brood) & [katemccgwire](http://www.katemccgwire.com/) If wishbones really do grant good fortune, then the art installation titled Brood by Kate MccGwire is filled with enough fortune to last a lifetime. It is made up of 23,000 chicken wishbones. Mounted on a wall in a stunning spiral pattern, this artwork was not made just for its visual appeal. Brood by Kate MccGwire pays tribute to the dead -- in particular, dead chickens. According to an accompanying statement, "MccGwire selected only the remains of battery-farmed chickens, the unnatural GM uniformity of the bones is shocking: transferring the ancient practices of witchcraft to a much more contemporary and scary one." Individually, the wishbone symbolizes hope. Together, however, the mass represents "a cull, a killing field, the horrors of genocide and slaughter of innocents," as written on her website. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 3.2/10 - Popularity: 64% | Activity: 25% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Social Good](https://www.trendhunter.com/socialgood) > [Activism](https://www.trendhunter.com/activism) ## Key Themes ### What Makes This Trend Stand Out - **Spiral Art Installations:** Opportunity for artists and designers to create visually stunning works using spiral patterns. - **Environmental Consciousness in Art:** Chance for artists to use their work to raise awareness about environmental issues. - **Symbolism in Art:** Potential for artists to convey deep meaning and messages through symbolic representations. ### Sectors Adopting This - **Art and Design:** Disruptive innovation opportunity for artists and designers to explore new concepts and techniques. - **Environmental Activism:** Potential for using art as a powerful tool to advocate for environmental causes. - **Museum and Gallery:** Opportunity for museums and galleries to showcase thought-provoking and impactful art installations. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Wish-Friendly Chocolate Treats](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wishoco-chocolate-wishbone.md) - [Minimalist Experimental Egg Racks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/experimental-egg-racks.md) - [Human Embraced-Inspired Sculptures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wallmounted-sculpture.md) - [Bone Powder-Made Home Fixtures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/souhaib-ghanmi.md) - [Science-Backed Wooden Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/seed-stories.md) - [Cage-Inspired Arch Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ai-weiweis-work.md) - [Chicken-Themed Virtual Art](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bojangles.md) - [Modernism Birdhouse Exhibitions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/dwellings-project.md) - [Folk Creature Sculptures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/fibredog.md)
