# Pool-Level Sunken Dens The 'Brighton 2' House Features a Sunken Living Room Adjacent to the Pool By Joey Haar | Published 2016-08-09 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/brighton-2 References: [contemporist](http://www.contemporist.com/2016/08/04/sunken-living-room-next-to-a-pool/) & [oftb.au](http://oftb.com.au/projects/brighton-2/) Some people love the feeling of the sun on their skin as they lounge in a pool while others want nothing more than to lie on a couch for their leisure time, so the 'Brighton 2' house is hoping to bring those two diverse groups closer together with its unique design. Built by Melbourne-based architecture firm OFTB, Brighton 2 features a sunken living room with glass walls that abuts the pool outside. The living room and pool actually attach directly through a glass door, meaning that eager swimmers can do a cannonball from inside the den into the water, and tired swimmers can leave the pool and walk straight into the cozy living space. Designed with a [modern fireplace](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-waverley-house), the living room is a great space for warming up after an evening dip. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 3.1/10 - Popularity: 58% | Activity: 26% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 30% men, 70% women - Primary generations: Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Architecture](https://www.trendhunter.com/architecture) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **Sunken Dens:** Houses with sunken living rooms that connect directly to the pool through glass doors, creating an immersive experience - **Indoor-outdoor Living:** Designs that blur the line between indoor and outdoor spaces to create a seamless, fluid experience - **Smart Pools:** Pools with advanced technology features that allow for easy control and monitoring from a smartphone or tablet ### Where This Applies - **Architecture:** Architecture firms can incorporate sunken dens in innovative designs that offer a unique and immersive home experience - **Home Decor:** Home decor companies can create furnishing pieces that are designed specifically for sunken dens to create a comfortable and cozy atmosphere - **Pool Technology:** Pool technology companies can develop and implement advanced features, such as automation and smart controls, that make pools convenient and easy to operate ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Underwater Pool Window Residences](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hastingssunrise.md) - [Garden-Surrounded Pool House](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/geometric-pool-house.md) - [Unobstructive Hidden Pool Houses](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/knox-bhavan.md) - [Excavated Underground Living Space](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hideaway-house.md) - [Asymmetrical Ultra-Compact Pools](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/faraway-pool.md) - [Customizable Tanning Pools](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/inflatable-tanning-pool.md) - [Scandinavian-Inspired Floating Daybeds](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/poolsofa.md) - [CLT Sunken Hungarian Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/clt-house.md) - [Forest Sanctuary Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sadowski-house.md)
