# Mountainside Viewing Platforms Brewster's Discovery Walkway Set for Jasper National Park By Michael Hines | Published 2011-03-14 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/brewster-s-discovery-walkway References: [dezeen](http://www.dezeen.com/2011/03/11/brewsters-discovery-walkway-by-sturgess-architecture/) & [sturgessarchitecture](http://www.sturgessarchitecture.com/) Canadian architectural firm Sturgess Architects have won a contest to design a [glass viewing platform](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cn-tower-renovation) over the Columbian Icefields of Alberta's Jasper National Park. Sturgess Architecture developed Brewster's Discovery Walkway, set to open next year, in conjunction with engineering and construction firms RJC and [PCL](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/diner-and-drivein-movie-supercharger). Brewster's Discovery Walkway will be made of glass and is designed similar to the [viewing platform at the Grand Canyon](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/observation-tower-krven). Brewster's Discovery Walkway also calls for a 400 meter walkway to be carved into the mountain, a pathway which should feature some marvelous views in its own right. Glass viewing platforms currently seem to be all the rage. I wouldn't be surprised to see other countries adopt this design for their natural landmarks. Could you imagine a viewing platform atop the Alps or the Andes? If you can dream, someone else can probably do it. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 2.7/10 - Popularity: 47% | Activity: 25% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 30% men, 70% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Architecture](https://www.trendhunter.com/architecture) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **Glass Viewing Platforms:** Designing glass viewing platforms over natural landmarks can provide unique and immersive experiences for visitors. - **Mountain Carved Pathways:** Creating carved pathways into mountains allows visitors to explore and appreciate the natural beauty and views. - **International Adoption of Viewing Platforms:** The trend of glass viewing platforms may expand globally as other countries look to enhance their natural landmarks. ### Where This Applies - **Architecture:** Architectural firms can explore innovative designs and materials to create visually stunning viewing platforms. - **Tourism and Travel:** The tourism industry can leverage the appeal of glass viewing platforms to attract visitors seeking unique and breathtaking experiences. - **Construction and Engineering:** Construction and engineering firms have opportunities to collaborate and develop efficient and safe structures for viewing platforms. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Stone-Like Discreet Glass Viewpoints](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/drifting-stones.md) - [Earthen Timber Viewing Pavilions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pujiang-platform-hill.md) - [Spanish Mountain Pass Lookouts](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/farrapona-geological.md) - [Mountaintop Viewpoint Ski Resorts](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/trojena.md) - [Mountain-Based Curved Viewpoints](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/yunhai-forest-service-station.md) - [Wooden Mountain Visitor Centers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pustevny-gateway.md) - [Single-Clad Alps Viewing Tower](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/top-of-alpbachtal.md) - [Mountain-Top Lookout Towers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/guard-patrol.md) - [Timber Nature Reserve Towers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-lookout-tower.md)
