# Vintage Plate-Covered Walls This Brazilian House Was Re-Designed with a Signature Wall Accent By Mishal Omar | Published 2016-10-04 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/brazilian-house References: [contemporist](http://www.contemporist.com/2016/09/29/create-an-accent-wall-by-filling-it-with-plates/) This Brazilian house has a design that was updated by the architectural firm 'Ambidestro.' The architect on the job Joao Pedro Crescente decided to make use of the family's plate collection in the design of the space. Rather than having the plates sit in cabinets, the Brazilian house now has a wall that is entirely dedicated to the plate collection. The architect chose to layer the plates rather than pattern them side by side, giving the wall a quirky and textured look. The wall of plates stands behind a sleek [spiral staircase](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/musa-apartment), offering the perfect fusion between eccentric design and modern ones. By using something as simple as a collection of plates in order to update this home, the designer manages to make perfect use of the space and provisions he was given for his job. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 4.3/10 - Popularity: 74% | Activity: 48% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, South America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Upcycled Home Decor:** Opportunity for designers to repurpose everyday items and turn them into unique design elements for homes. - **Quirky Wall Accents:** Potential for creating statement walls using unconventional and unexpected objects as decorative features. - **Fusion of Old and New:** The blending of traditional and modern elements in interior design to create visually interesting and eclectic spaces. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Interior Design:** Opportunity for interior designers to offer unique and personalized design solutions by incorporating unconventional elements. - **Home Decor:** Potential for manufacturers and retailers to tap into the market demand for unique and eclectic home decor pieces. - **Architectural Services:** Opportunity for architects to explore creative and unexpected design choices that transform spaces and leave a lasting impression. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Seaside Home Renovation](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/casa-de-praia.md) - [Nostalgic Family Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/apartamento-relicrio.md) - [Dynamically Patterned Portuguese Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/087-house.md) - [Brazilian Modern Dallas Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/brazilian-modernism.md) - [Ceramic Modern Houses](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hillsborough-residence.md) - [Pavilion-Style Art Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/galeria-house.md) - [Curved Surface Portuguese Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/a-house-within-a-few-lines.md) - [Curved Brick Entertaining Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sobremesa-house.md) - [Curved Garden-Surrounding Linear Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/casa-dos-terraos-circulares.md)
