# Single-Room Apartments This Brazilian Apartment Features an Open-Concept Layout By Vasiliki Marapas | Published 2015-01-08 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/brazilian-apartment References: [contemporist](http://www.contemporist.com/2015/01/07/david-guerra-designed-this-compact-apartment-in-brazil-for-the-casa-cor-minas-2014-exhibition/) & [davidguerra.br](http://www.davidguerra.com.br/) David Guerra was tasked with designing the interior of a [Brazilian apartment](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/jf-residence) at this year's Casa Cor Minas 2014 exhibition. The [compact apartment](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cabanon) being completely empty, Guerra was free to design whatever his heart desired (space permitting). The layout makes use of the available space, encouraging fluidity and circulation throughout. The dining, living, kitchen and bedroom areas are, in effect, a single space that can be opened or closed off thanks to a system of [sliding doors](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/apartment-ann), as well as a leather-coated wall that conceals the closet and bathroom. Taking advantage of the integrated single-room space, the architect opted for a suspended television that rotates to face all directions. Similarly, the wooden furniture that acts as a divider between spaces was specifically designed for simultaneous uses, whether it be for dining, entertainment or work. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 6.7/10 - Popularity: 98% | Activity: 95% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **Open-concept Layouts:** Designing apartments with open-concept layouts creates fluidity and circulation throughout the space. - **Integrated Single-room Spaces:** Creating integrated single-room spaces allows for multi-functional furniture and versatile design options. - **Sliding Doors for Flexibility:** Installing sliding doors offers the flexibility to open or close off different areas of the apartment as needed. ### Where This Applies - **Interior Design:** The interior design industry can explore innovative ways to maximize space and create versatile living environments in compact apartments. - **Furniture Design:** Furniture designers have an opportunity to create multi-functional pieces that can be used for dining, entertainment, and work in small, open-concept apartments. - **Home Improvement:** The home improvement industry can offer solutions for installing sliding doors to create flexible and adaptable living spaces in apartments. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Compact Duplex Apartments](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sbc-apartment.md) - [Thoughtful Micro Studio Apartments](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/mini-studio-apartment.md) - [Light-Inviting Renovated Apartments](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/copan-apartment.md) - [Smartly Designed Compact Apartments](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/compact-apartments2.md) - [Brutalist Minimal Apartment Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/fj-apartment.md) - [Vividly Designed Apartments](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pascali-semerdjian-arquitetos-1.md) - [Timeless Comfortable Bright Apartments](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lvia-leite.md) - [Reimagined Minimal Parisian Apartments](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/minimalist-cocoon.md) - [Cleverly Designed Micro Apartments](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cabanon.md)
