# Amateur Typeface Game Art This New Meme Has Gamers Recreating Box Art with Comic Sans and Clip Art By Andrew Sztein | Published 2013-04-24 | Tech Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/box-art References: [kotaku](http://kotaku.com/fixing-video-game-box-art-with-clip-art-and-comic-san-477587565) & [tumblr](http://www.tumblr.com/tagged/clipart) Here's a fun meme that turns to horror of the comic sans font and freely available clip art into compelling recreations of iconic video game box art. It's pretty much common Internet opinion at this point that the comic sans font is the worst font in existence that makes anything it touches seem amateurish. When you mix comic sans with clip art that looks just as amateurish as the font with video game box art, you end up with something that's as beautifully hilarious as it is awful to look at. A [Tumblr](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/livebox) blog has taken it upon itself to collect all of the best mashups of box art with the terrible visual elements. The Tumblr blog even allows for album covers and movie posters to be redone in comic sans. The ironic part is that despite how amateurish the box art designs are, a lot of work went into creating each one. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 2.5/10 - Popularity: 34% | Activity: 33% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, South America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Tech](https://www.trendhunter.com/tech) > [Games](https://www.trendhunter.com/games) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **Amateur Typeface Art:** Create intentionally amateurish designs using comic sans and clip art for a humorous and ironic aesthetic. - **Amateur Meme Recreation:** Recreate iconic video game box art, album covers, and movie posters with amateur design elements for comedic effect. - **Comic Sans Mashups:** Combine comic sans fonts with various visual elements to create humorous and visually striking artwork. ### Where This Applies - **Graphic Design:** Graphic designers can explore the use of intentionally amateur design elements to create unique and humorous artwork for clients. - **Gaming:** Game developers and marketers can leverage the popularity of meme culture to create engaging and humorous promotional material. - **Entertainment:** Entertainment industry professionals can tap into the nostalgia of iconic box art, album covers, and movie posters to create fun and interactive content for fans. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Typographic Matchmaking Games](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/font-connectoin.md) - [Typography Learning Games](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/font-guesser.md) - [Holiday-Themed Playful Quizzes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/foney-fonts.md) - [Quirky Snack-Inspired Fonts](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cheetos-other-hand-font.md) - [Gaming Ads-Inspired Video Games](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/those-games.md) - [Instant Noodle-Crafted Fonts](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/times-new-ramen.md) - [Creative Frustration Outlets](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/punch-your-client.md) - [AI-Supporting Art Projects](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/electronics-hub-art.md) - [Video Game-Themed Pixel Paintings](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pixel-art-collection.md)
