# Bowtie-Shaped Houses 'Bowtie House' was Designed by deMx Architecture By Joey Haar | Published 2016-09-09 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bowtie-house References: [dezeen](http://www.dezeen.com/2016/09/08/bowtie-house-demx-architecture-angular-metal-roof-arkansas/) & [demxarchitecture](http://www.demxarchitecture.com/residential/) Located deep in [rural Arkansas](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/stanfordville-house), among the Ozark Mountains, 'Bowtie House' brings to mind black tie formal wear more than it does the jeans, plaid, and workers boots that might more commonly grace the area. Designed by the local firm deMx Architecture, Bowtie House is shortest in the center, with an [angled roof that slopes upward](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/a-house-with-an-inverted-roof) toward the lateral ends of the building, giving it the appearance of -- as one likely guessed -- a bow tie. Many people's only association with the Ozarks comes from the film 'Deliverance,' which is why the formal inspiration might come as a surprise. This is exactly the stereotype that Bowtie House aims to break, though, as the design "fuses [Modernist ideals with vernacular strategies](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/dogtrot) and a linear plan in responding to its Ozark context," according to the architects. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 3.0/10 - Popularity: 52% | Activity: 29% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen X - Top markets: North America ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Architecture](https://www.trendhunter.com/architecture) ## Key Themes ### What Makes This Trend Stand Out - **Rural Architecture:** Innovative home designs that respond to rural contexts, mixing Modernist aesthetics with vernacular strategies. - **Angled Roofs:** Creative use of angles on roofs to add visual interest and a unique appearance to a building's overall design. - **Breaking Stereotypes:** Designs that challenge traditional expectations, breaking down assumptions and stereotypes associated with certain regions or types of architecture. ### Sectors Adopting This - **Real Estate:** Opportunities for innovative new home designs that respond to specific regional contexts and challenge assumptions about what types of architecture are appropriate in different places. - **Architecture:** Opportunities to create bold, unconventional designs that push the boundaries of traditional architectural stereotypes and break new ground in imaginative home construction. - **Interior Design:** Opportunities to create visually striking interiors that respond to unique architectural features like angled roofs, and emphasize the daring, creative spirit of a home's overall design. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [X-Shaped Nature-Interacting Gabled Cabins](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/fowl-river-cabin.md) - [Black-Metal Angled Holiday Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/shadow-box-house.md) - [Stealthy Gabled Upstate Residences](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/clinton-corners.md) - [Retro Themed A-Frame Houses](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/arrowhead-double-aframe-house.md) - [Upward-Pitched Roof Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/oneill-mcvoy-architects.md) - [Dynamic Y-Shaped Glazed Houses](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-y-house.md) - [Juxtaposing Traditionally Modular Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hihat-house.md) - [Discreet Architectural Polish Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/loop-house.md) - [Wedge-Shaped Stealthy Cottages](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/barbora-vokac-taylor-architect.md)
