Each time a generation of cyclists adopts a new form of protection, the thieves seem to immediately catch on and find its weakness. Due to the unending arms race between bike owners and their lifelong predators, the Bottle Lock is the newest weapon available to victims. The device is ostensibly a [water bottle](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bottle-bottle), and instead of water, it holds a 5-foot long, 7.5mm [braided steel cable](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/togo-bottle) within its chassis. Normally, a bike thief would be pleased to see a weak chain running through a bottle. This individual is bound to be disappointed to find a reinforced steel cable, no water and police cuffs around his wrists. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 2.7/10 - Popularity: 37% | Activity: 36% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial - Top markets: North America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Lifestyle](https://www.trendhunter.com/lifestyle) > [Sports](https://www.trendhunter.com/sports) ## Key Themes ### What Makes This Trend Stand Out - **Bike Security:** Innovations in bike security technology and devices are being developed to combat theft. - **Disguised Security:** The development of security devices that appear innocuous and disguised as another object is on the rise. - **Anti-theft Arms Race:** As bike locks evolve, bike thieves must adapt, leading to an ongoing arms race between the two sides. ### Sectors Adopting This - **Bicycle Accessories:** Bicycle accessory companies can innovate and develop new products to help prevent bicycle theft. - **Design and Technology:** Design and technology companies can create devices that provide protection and security for other everyday items. - **Law Enforcement:** The development of anti-theft devices may encourage collaboration between companies and law enforcement to prevent theft and catch criminals. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Slap-Band-Inspired Bike Locks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/slapstick-smart-bicycle-lock.md) - [Indestructible Bike Locks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/foldylock-forever.md) - [Helmet-Friendly Bike Locks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/abus-combiflex-travelguard.md) - [Theft-Thwarting Laptop Locks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/laptop-lock.md) - [Sleek Cyclist Water Bottles](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cyclist-water-bottle.md) - [Collapsible Ultra-Secure Bike Locks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/folding-lock.md) - [Connected Chain Link Locks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/linka-lasso.md) - [Discreet Connected Bike Locks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/laas-olock.md) - [Hidden Seat Bike Locks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lockinvisible.md)
