Created as a network of [small off-grid shelters](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/selfsufficient-bivouac), each cabin is modeled after a [traditional mountain cabin](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/la-cadree-perche) -- executed in a modern fashion with a living area, loft bedroom, small kitchenette, an outdoor patio and large windows. The idea was conceived by a group of artists, architects and designers, each one completely immersed in the wilderness to optimize forward-thinking and creativity. The Bothy Project network currently is made of three different units that are based on the edge of Croft Island, the [Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/iorram) and on the banks of River Spey. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 5.6/10 - Popularity: 81% | Activity: 78% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Eco](https://www.trendhunter.com/eco) ## Key Themes ### What Makes This Trend Stand Out - **Off-grid Living:** The trend of off-grid living presents opportunities for innovative solutions in sustainable energy, water conservation, and self-sufficiency. - **Nature-inspired Design:** The trend of nature-inspired design in architecture and shelter offers opportunities for incorporating natural elements, biophilic design principles, and eco-friendly materials. - **Creative Retreats:** The trend of creative retreats and artistic sanctuaries provides opportunities for designing unique spaces that foster inspiration and artistic expression. ### Sectors Adopting This - **Sustainable Energy:** The sustainable energy industry can benefit from off-grid living by developing innovative solar power systems, wind turbines, and energy storage solutions. - **Architecture and Construction:** The architecture and construction industry can explore nature-inspired design principles in building structures and incorporate sustainable materials and technology. - **Hospitality and Tourism:** The hospitality and tourism industry can tap into the trend of creative retreats by creating specialized accommodations and experiences for artists, writers, and creative professionals. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Sustainable Off-Grid Remote Retreats](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/daria-sheina.md) - [Hilltop Valley-Overlooking Cabins](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hermitage.md) - [Off-Grid Forest Retreats](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-nest-cabin.md) - [Shape‑shifting Retreats](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/modular-offgrid-house.md) - [Artistic Lakeside Retreats](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ely-retreat.md) - [Waterside Retreat Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bora-boral.md) - [Intimate High-Altitude Cottages](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/altihut.md) - [Alpine Valley-Cliff Cabins](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bivacco-brdy.md) - [Natural Material Scottish Cottages](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/iorram.md)
