# Pinchable Rubber Pendant Lamps The Booo Bulb Swaps Out Fragile Glass in Favor of Flexible Material By Amelia Roblin | Published 2013-04-26 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/booo-bulb References: [notcot.org](http://www.notcot.org/post/53644/) & [blender01](http://www.blender01.com/en.html) Padding in packaging is necessary in order to keep incandescent lightbulbs protected from impact and consequent breaks, but the Booo Bulb does not need any extra buffering. This unique lamp has been manufactured with rubber that simply squishes and misshapes when any weight presses against it. Nacho Carbonell's design turns the notion of a lighting object into one that is tactile as well as visual. One might feel compelled to pinch and squeeze it and feel its warmth in his hands. The Booo Bulb's fixture makes it compatible with a number of electrical hookups, and it can be beneath a lampshade or left uncovered. Because the material is thick and translucent enough to lessen the intensity of light on its own, the product can function as its own diffuser. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 5.0/10 - Popularity: 68% | Activity: 73% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Gen Alpha, Millennial - Top markets: Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### What's Driving This Trend - **Flexible Lighting:** There is a disruptive innovation opportunity in creating lighting products using flexible and squishable materials to enhance user experience and durability. - **Tactile Design:** Designing products with tactile qualities like the Booo Bulb presents opportunities for engaging user interactions and creating unique sensory experiences. - **Integrated Diffusers:** Incorporating translucent materials into lighting design to function as built-in diffusers can simplify product construction and enhance lighting effects. ### Who This Affects Most - **Interior Lighting:** The interior lighting industry can explore the use of flexible materials to create innovative and durable lighting products that offer a unique tactile experience. - **Home Decor:** The home decor industry can incorporate tactile design elements like the Booo Bulb to offer consumers products that engage multiple senses and create a visually appealing environment. - **Product Packaging:** The product packaging industry can explore the use of flexible and squishable materials to provide better protection for fragile items, reducing the need for additional padding. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Inflatable Colorful Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/squeeze-inflatable-lamp.md) - [Touch-Enhanced Glass Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bolita.md) - [Inflatable Mood Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/blow-lamp.md) - [Bubble-Inspired Pendant Lights](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bubbles-lighting-design.md) - [Soft Comfort Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/soft-lamp.md) - [Malleable Connected Illuminators](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pofu-lamp.md) - [Translucent Bulbous Pendant Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/big-glow-light.md) - [Whimsical Glass Bubbled Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/peeka.md) - [Recycled Material Pendant Lights](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/zbozhzha-pendant-light.md)
