# Boom Box Architecture Kring-Gumho Culture Complex in Seoul Looks Like a Ghetto-Blaster By Going Like Sixty | Published 2009-02-26 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/boom-box-buildings References: [designboom](http://www.designboom.com/weblog/cat/9/view/5470/unsangdong-architects-kring-gumho-culture-complex-seoul-korea.html) Looming over the city like the [classic ghetto-blaster](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/brutalist-speaker) is the Kring-Gumho Culture Complex in Seoul. Soul, hee. Get it? Seoul, soul. Yeah, well, Unsangdong Architects (I did not make that up) designed this steel building that features circular indented forms. A cylinder walkway connects the levels. People who attend [cultural events](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hengqin-culture-and-art-complex) will have to “scratch” their way to the top. **Implications** - In addition to highly stylized designs, architects are looking for quirky designs that are appealing and unique. Inspirations drawn from boom boxes and other hip objects often make a structure more people-friendly, eliminating any perceived pretenses. Architects should continue to take on playful designs as a way of making their work more welcoming to people who occupy the space. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 2.6/10 - Popularity: 41% | Activity: 30% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Architecture](https://www.trendhunter.com/architecture) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Quirky Architecture Designs:** Architects are looking for quirky designs that are appealing and unique, drawing inspiration from boom boxes and other hip objects. - **People-friendly Structures:** Playful designs in architecture eliminate perceived pretenses and make spaces more welcoming for people who occupy them. - **Stylized Architectural Designs:** Architects are exploring highly stylized designs to create visually striking structures. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Architecture:** Architects can embrace quirky, people-friendly and stylized designs in their projects to attract clients and create innovative structures. - **Event Planning:** Event venues can consider incorporating playful architectural designs to enhance the overall experience and attract more attendees. - **Real Estate:** Real estate developers can invest in unique and eye-catching architectural designs to increase property value and stand out in the market. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Architecture-Inspired Structural Speakers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/agnes-speaker.md) - [Perorated Brickwork Music Centers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-gong.md) - [Architecturally Influenced Speakers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-brutalist-speaker.md) - [Modernized Boomboxes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/we-are-rewind.md) - [Retrofuturistic Tube Amplifier Jukeboxes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/dukebox.md) - [Toy Brick-Inspired Studios](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/curving-block.md) - [Colorful Cubist Audio Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/aa67-speaker.md) - [Modern Concrete Community Residences](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hoji-gangneung.md) - [Sculptural Speaker Concepts](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sonique.md)
